Windows XP is such a pain in the backside. Why do things randomly happen

Everytime i turn my pc on, instead of it loading up windows and my programs completely it now stops at this stupid login screen("welcome screen") where i have to click on my name to log onto the computer(only one name there). How on earth do i turn this stupid thing off? I have looked in user accounts but i can only find the option to change it back to the classic login screen which is no use to me as i want rid completely.

The only thing i remember doing which may have caused this was installing .net framework versions 1.1 and 2.0.

Any ideas please?

thanks

if you dont want to log in at all using the welcome screen or classic nt login...

goto run, control userpasswords2

select your log-in name

untick the box above that says users must enter user / pass

now enter your password

re-enter your password

click ok

done!

yes that did cause it. No, its not random, its a documented feature. installing .net creates another user account meaning you have to select which account to log in with, even if you can only see yours on the list. mgoing thru the process above will force windows to log in with your account automatically.

Hi, thanks for the quick reply. I did what you said but now i am wondering about the enter your password twice part. I never had a password before and i don't want one. Am i doing the right thing? I just left it blank and clicked ok.
