Aye I decided on G92 also if it's truly coming out in November and is as powerful as the specs say. :D

From what I have heard it's november for the low/mid end and Jan 08 for the high end.

a 270 quid gfx card will play crysis on full settings, maxed out :D .

you sure about that? full settings maxxed out means 1920x1080 rez, dx10 mode with 16xAF and minimul of 4xAA and all details set to max in game.

doubt if he spends 270 on his pc he will get to play crysis 'properly'

Well Mav considering the game has been showcased several times on the current 8800 hardware I very much doubt he wont be able to play Crysis on it!

We all know the 8800's and 2900's will play Crysis, Bioshock, Unreal Tournament 3, Gears of War and the like all fine so you really cant go wrong with your choice.

Best buy you can make is getting the cheapest 8800 GTX that you can :)
If you do want to go ATi then get the 2900XT 512mb...dont waste your money on the 1GB version. But then noise and power consumption come into it.

What on earth does resolution have to do with playing a game on its full/max settings? Surely that's dictated by the size of your screen.

Yeah but at crippling frame-rates, when he went into the camp it must have been down to about 10fps or less, and have you seen that Crysis on Penryn vid, when the chopper came up it crapped out as it couldn't cope, must have been down to about 5fps there.

*Yes i know its not fully optimised yet, im joking. :p

Should I try and find somewhere to buy a 1950 crossfire edition so I can have my existing HIS x1950 xtx (512mb) card in crossfire with it. Or just blow it all on a 2900xt 1gb.

Advice?

Also I use XP and intend to carry on doing so for a while. Do the full benefits of the 2900 require vista?

thankyou in advance.

welcome to the forums :)

A 1950 crossfire setup would be very powerful and would probably very close or even equal to the performance of the 2900XT. However, a X1950 cf setup would consumes LOADS of power lots more than a HD 2900XT on load. If I were I would get a HD 2900XT 512mb and pocket the rest :)

Oh and sell your X1950 of course :p

The 2900XT is the better choice & then just sell your current card.

Whilst the 2900XT will run fine in XP, you can only get DX10 effects on Vista.
I am sticking with XP for the timebeing also, as i dont see an incentive for a change as yet.

im sticking with my trusty X1900Xt 512 until the G90 range comes out - and the student loan goes in of course......... heehee - ill be going C2D and new card then - cant blumin wait!!!

I dont see the point of getting a 300quid card now that wont play Crysis at high - ultra high settings when it comes out.

I think i can wait - my rig at the momment plays everything i chuck at her on high - max settings quite hapily. :)
