I have a Team Group Elite dual channel 2x 8GB RAM kit in my ASUS Z170 pro gaming motherboard. If I wanted to, could I buy the same kit again and just add them to it and thus making it a 4 channel 32GB RAM system?

I would get 2x 16gb and sell your 2x 8gb.

Why?

Oh really. So dual is generally a better option than 4? I suppose it makes sense that 4 components could potentially cause more issues than 2 but I have never seen a definitive explaination/conclusion in the 2 vs 4 option...

No its not, get 2 x 8gb and drop them in.
4 sticks can put extra load in the IMC and drop your overclock a little but unless you ragging you system for ever last Mhz your not going to have a problem.

Do a search on Google....lots of hits about this although not many come to a conclusive outcome the general "feeling" is that more sticks loads the memory controller more (obviously) which could result in less stable overclocks (if you are overclocking) and also mismatched memory sticks can affect overall timings in a negative way.

Yes, you have 4 slots, may as well use them. I wouldn't worry about the overclocking implications, doubt it'd make a noticeable difference in the end if you have to drop it slightly?

Thanks all. I have overclocked to 2666 although given they are 2400 as stock I would have hoped/thought given the modest increase I wouldn't have had to worry about stability issues - even with adding 2 more? Running on Windows 10 by the way.

I probably don't need 32GB of RAM although I do game on the ACER X34 3440x1440 monitor so not too far away from 4K in terms of pixel count, but more is always better and I have that itch at the moment that wants to keep adding to my rig - £60 to upgrade to 32GB is easily obtainable...

Hi, it will work fine but will still be running at dual channel. Quad channel is on the X79/99 systems.
