I have a challenge for you all

Are you/they a student? Might be able to get a discount on Windows 7, freeing up a few for the rest of the rig :p

Can't be done for less than £550 on this site, and that is with compromises.

Try looking second hand or increase the budget. Even with a student discount it's gonna be a struggle to be within £500. Got to talk at least £650 to get a reasonable tower with that monitor and W7.

I managed to find these but to pick out your own spec from cpu to OS will cost more:
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=FS-226-OK&groupid=43&catid=1078&subcat= : As you see no graphics card option only onboard id advise looking for a second hand ATI 1gb 4870

What exactly does he/she have atm i.e mouse keyboard

If you can give us a detailed picture we could spec you something but £600 is a much better ballpart figure, don't forget the delivery is gonna cost you something more as well

Also no PSU?

Best I can manage;

Could've cut a few more quid but the loss in quality isn't worth it. Also assuming you can borrow/nick a dvd drive from someone:p

Rubbish!

I cant link it, but a competitor has a base PC build, £209, 450W PSU, and an additional £90 for Win7. Then £142 for the OCUK monitor, leaves you with ~£68 for a graphics card.

Like this weeks' 4850. Granted, that may involve 2 delivery charges, but thats as close to £500 as you'll get to £500.

I cant link it, but a competitor has a base PC build, £209..

well, you could at least post the 'base pc build'.. Would be good to be able to comment on whether this build is worth looking at as opposed to stretching for something better/newer/with more longevity to it..

Sorry to say this, but you can't really do this on here without compromising.

You could try 'H'ell? Or Shadowake's solution :)

here you go as close as i can get, it will play most games at medium to low settings. you could save a whole pound by going with a 80GB HD :D....of course 4 GB of ram isnt really needed but overclockers dont do any 2GB ddr2 kits any more.

Decent PSU, System board and RAM are essential ! There's load's of second hand Socket 775 stuff knocking around in the Members market. You could build a cracking system for £500 easy. Unless he want's an i3/i5 system? I would spend the money on second hand parts and Overclock the nutts off her... then keep the change as a 'service charge'. lol !

buying second hand parts of course its possible, you could get a good pc with that money, simply buying brand new parts from ocuk for example you will have to compromise.
