Hi guys :)

I've got a sony VAIO FW-11M laptop and everything is perfectly fine except for an odd problem with optical drives. 9/10 times when i bring the laptop out of sleep it the laptop drive will disappear from windows with the device manager giving me an error 38 code:

Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware because a previous instance of the device driver is still in memory. (Code 38)

Click 'Check for solutions' to send data about this device to Microsoft and to see if there is a solution available.

as i want to buy an external drive anyway (to save wear and tear on the bluray writer in the vaio - cheaper to replace a cheap external dvd drive, plus it'd be a lot faster) i thought that will kill the problem in the mean time but ive discovered it does the same with the external drive too, which is a samsung se-s224 by the way.

this happens on a fresh install from the restore discs, ive not tried a bog standard vista install yet. Anybody got any ideas how to stop this from happening? it defeats the object of putting the laptop to sleep if i cant use the optical drives, really :/

Cheers guys :)
