hi this post has a few problems attached

1.one is is a x48 mobo worth it for crossfire, I do game at high res, my currnet card is a HD4870 512 and I game at 1080 or higher depending on the game with AA turned on 2-4x on a 24inch t240
my hidden qestion is. Is 512 enough for that?? o_O or do I need the 1Gb really, yes I am thinking of crossfireing next year in jan

2. I belive my maxumis 2 formular has been damaged =(, reason why I say this is becasue I had a OCZ 800watt it was faulty and it shorted out once putting the comp into a soft off state since than it keeps crashing for no reason..no idea if warrnety would cover such a case. I did send the powersupply back and it WAS indeed faulty. Or its a bad overclock but than hte boared has been run at that setting since I got it and no problem up till than.

any help would be muched appreacated.

have a happy new year :P

Hey
1) Im not sure what a non x48 system works like, my board is x48, but turning x-fire on/off changes 3dmark06 from round 15k to 20k, so yeah thats quite a difference. As you already have a 4870 512mb its definately not worth getting a new 1gig card, I read an article a while back (cant remember where, sorry) which basically said 24" is the limit where you want to change from 512mb to 1gig, below 24" there is no point in 1gig, above it there is, so at it???I'm not 100% sure but I reckon you'll be fine with the 512Mb. AA will be helped by crossfiring, however the resolution is solely down to the memory available 512Mb/1gig, but settings, such as AA/AF and in game effects are goverened by the clocks available which is where crossfire comes in. Hope that helps
2)Not sure, cant really help, sounds like it might of shorted something but without you thoroughly testing it theres no way to be sure, an RMA is unlikely to be accepted as you've been OC'ing which invariably invalidates all warranties (hence all the big warnings before you start OC'ing) You could maybe try claiming compensation from PSU maufacturer if thats still in warranty, but its a long shot and prob not worth the effort it would take. Sorry couldnt be more help on this one

well my CPU was the OC version form OCUK anyway, and that power supply went packing it was indeed faulty as for the boared well I don't know, I m consdering putting it back to defualt see what happens if it still does it I ll see if OCUK would take the boared back under warrnety but since it was working fine to start off with I don't think they will but we will see.

well it seems that something is wrong with my computer and I am aiming it at my mobo or HDDs or a matter of both...two powersupply units wouldn't casue that. problems start after a fautly one, or while I had the faulty one...

just need to find out for sure what it is
