• Competitor rules

Please remember that any mention of competitors, hinting at competitors or offering to provide details of competitors will result in an account suspension. The full rules can be found under the 'Terms and Rules' link in the bottom right corner of your screen. Just don't mention competitors in any way, shape or form and you'll be OK.

I have a predicament.

I think you should tell the competitor that you have tried it in 2 of your freinds computers and it does the same thing, and as a customer you want a replacment. Tell them, dont ask you will be supprised at what you can do.

The CONSUMER is the king!...

Not if they prove its working.

Id say the card if it runs fine when its at default Nvidia clocks.

Probably can't handle the OC's that XFX are doing on em, i remember when there was a shed load of BFG 8800 GT OC's like that when they came out, BFG replaced em all.

I already RMA'd it and it was tested as working so they sent it ack :(

Really need to send it in a second system. If it still doesn't work, its obvious the rna department didnt stress the card enough or are just lying. Then you get it independently tested and then tell them to compensate you, or take them to small claims court. I suspect trading standards would help here as well.

Then id say they are telling you porkies if you've tried it in a couple of mates machines and its done the same.

I haven't tried it in another machine, that post was hypothetical. I really am screwed, I don't know anyone with a machine that could even begin to support my components. I need to test the GPU, PSU and MOBO but i dont know how. I'm really getting upset about this.

WHAT TO DO?? I have neither time nor money.

How does it crash? and does it crash in anything or only certain titles?

Far cry 2 benchmark - crashes on second loop of ranch long max settings. If i underclock to Nvidia ref speeds it runs 99 loops no problem.

Same story with 3dmark vantage.

I'm fairly sure it can't be the factory OC to blame as it runs so cool and there are no artifacts

OMG!!!!!!!!!! If i overclock it to 700/2500 it doesn't crash!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So it crashes at factory OC, it's stable at Nvidia ref and it's stable when heavily OC'd. What's going on lol.

Yes. I could lend you my psu, or test it in my machine if you need too on Sunday.

Legend, Thanks! That would be very useful and could potentially save me from a huge headache. At this stage we ought to have a chat, but I'm not aloud to PM yet so i can't send you my phone number or email address. Can you think of a way to exchange details privately?

Oh, it does afterall.

I have 3 +12v rails. Could i try running 6pin off one, 6pin off the other and 2pin off the 8pin? might this help me get the extra amps or would it blow up the card?

I've found some people in other forums who had similar issues, that fixed it with a 6pin to 8pin adapter rather than 8 pin from the psu. XFX didn't put one of these in the box though. strange.

I don't want to appear rude here but I will be blunt ;)
You have enough information here to fix Your problem...if a.&b. are correct !
a. the card was tested by the retailer
b. the card will run faster clocks without issue
Your problem is with the stability of the rest of Your PC, turn down Your overclock or get it stable !

As mentioned in previous post, it wasnt stable at the higher clocks afterall. Also, My PC is prime stable and absolutely rock solid. I never had an issue until i got this card, so it is likely PSU or faulty card. How would you suggest i get my system stable? This isn't as easy as it looks, regardless of information on this thread. We're just pooling ideas at the moment.

Also, regarding a., Would you trust a reseller to test it as thoroughly as you would?

Ok. I've now tested it with a different PSU and it produced the same issue, so I have one more question. Is it most likely now to be the Card itself or could it be the motherboard?

I was able to repress the fault by putting all the fans in my system up to 100% including the GPU. But this is insane, I have 9 120mm fans in my case and all the temps are very low. GPU never exceeds 75 and CPU and mb rarely exceed 30. I shouldn't have to have the fans so high should I?

Apologies for the delay in gettng back as taking things apart and sorting it out took a tad longer then i thought it would. Also took the time to do a bit of cable management :). Of the two unless your having other problems on the system as well i would say it is most likely the card. I don't have a spare pci-e card laying around at the minute so can't help but maybe worth buying a real cheap crappy £30 thing to test if the mobo has problems.

I have no issues with my 8800GTX. Never a single crash and that is factory OC'd also. Problem is, the competitor has tested the card as working so I'm lumbered with it now. :(
