So my system has been up and running a month or so, since switching from Amd cpu /mobo to Intel....

I have the Z97 Gaming 5 board with an i5 4690k running @ 4.0ghz

After reading up on the best cpu for this mobo, it's the i7 4790k.

IF... i buy the i7 , am i going to get a big change from my current cpu?

I have clocked the i5 up to 4.3ghz and all is stable with good temps...
but i have heard the i7 will possibly push to 5.0ghz?

What do you guys think?

Your current cpu will be fine, I doubt you will notice any performance difference between the two.

I wouldn't upgrade personally if you're just gaming. To get to 5GHz on a 4790K, I reckon you'll need some serious cooling as well.

If your i5 is stable at 4.3, then I'd stick with it. It's a good CPU and if your temps are good, so much the better.

I have a water cooler installed (A.I.O Unit).
I only ask about the i7 - as a friend wants £180 for his (8months old).
But if you guys seriously wouldnt bother, then i wont..
The thing is, by o/c my cpu - i am shortening its life aren't i?

If you run crazy voltages, then yes it'll degrade far more rapidly. If you OC at safe voltages, the CPU will be good for several years.

£180 for a 4790K isn't a bad price given the current prices, but you may not notice that much difference.

What AIO have you got?

If you have got a whole burning in your pocket, depending on your current gpu of course that would be a better upgrade.

I never mess with voltages, just use the bios to alter clock and thats it.

My AIO is a Triton 140 (Bought from here)
