This is going to be bizarre, but here we go 
I have a memory of a particular scene from my childhood, but I have no idea what it is from - it could be from TV, a book, a film or a comic, or it could possibly a dream. I'm thinking it's probably from an illustrated book. The scene is as follows:
There is some strange bright multi-coloured monster / caterpillar / sausage-like thing that is either laying eggs or eating eggs whilst the main characters look on and watch. Eventually it gets big or explodes, or oodles or oodles of egg like things comes out in some sort of dramatic fashion
Actually, I'm thinking it might be from something like the Trap Door?!
I realise how utterly ridiculous this sounds but there is nothing like the collective brain power of OCUK. Am I totally insane, or does it exist?
