I have a very noobish question

Hi All

I would like to (unless you guys advise me to think otherwise) upgrade my current motherboard (asus p8b75-m le). My CPU is a (socket lga 1155 3rd gen) i5-3570k - running at stock. The main reason I would like to upgrade is to utilize 2 ssd's (60gb & 500gb) running at 6gbs, eek more performace out my gpu - if possible!? (AMD HD 7970 gigabyte 3gb) & depending on costs, possibly upgrade my ram (currently x2 4gb @ 1333mhz 8gb ddr3)

I would like a new motherboard with at some overclocking potential through the bios and that is optimised for gaming. I have a budget of £160 (i dont want to spend too much as i'm patiently waiting for my big upgrade when skylake cpu's comes out)

And here come's my noobish question. Every lga1555 motherboard i search only displays it supports 4th gen intel cpu's. Despite the manufacturer spec's sheet not actually mentioning it, can i safely presume that my current 3rd cpu will be applicable with the mobo?

Anywho, i would be most appreciative if anybody can advise me on a motherboard + ram...

What you need is a z77 motherboard which you may have to look on an auction site.

I would say don't waste your money, your socket is dead and any boards still around, even 2nd hand, fetch a premium. Skylake brings with it a new socket and DDR4 so any current ram upgrade won't be able to be carried over. A new motherboard won't get you any performance upgrade on your gpu however, with a Z77 board you would be able to overclock your cpu and free up extra performance. As Skylake is only a couple of months away now I would wait.

This. Unless you can find a really cheap Z77 board to unlock your CPU. I would save the money and put it towards Skylake.

Many thanks for the advice peeps. I think I'm going to take up on pastymuncher advice. I didn't realise will be coming out (there abouts) Q3-Q4 this year, as I have seen many rumours of production delays.

Oh well that answers that question then!
