I have a virus.... help please.

Hey, I need help with a virus my g/f's mum's computer that AVG has found. It only seems to pop up when the internet is switched on. It says the following...

Threat Detected!

While opening file: C:\\WINDOWS\Temp\pl.exe
Virus found Win32/Agent

I have tried just deleting the virus from the WINDOWS folder but it comes straight back.

If anyone can help me with this problem that would be great, thanks

Reboot into safe mode, and do a full system scan?

What do a full scan of AVG??

Right I have run AVG in safemode and it didn't find a thing. I booted back into normal windows and the probelm is still there. I also downloaded spybot and that found some things but not this problem, I don't know what to do next, help please.

I downloaded that, but it asks to purchase it. If anyone can find a solution for this problem then please please tell me about it, its really annoying when using the computer, I will also carry on looking for solutions.

There are some instructions to remmove it manually about 2" down from the download button

try turning of system restore and using spybot and trial version of avira antivirus premium

My brother used to use AVG and had loads of problems and asked me to look at it. Try downloading a copy of Avast, which is another free AntiVirus app.

And as people are suggesting, run it in safe mode. I did this and I couldn't believe the amount of stuff AVG couldn't remove but Avast removed them no probs.

Further to that, Download the NOD32 30 day trial, zap the virus with that, then either buy it or keep it for the 30 days and then replace with avast.

I used Kasperky Internet Security 7.0 and CounterSpy V2 -- worked prefect on Vista x64 --- try free 15 days trial CounterSpy V2 as it scan deep but it take time to be done... Kaspersky is the best buy.

Chances are its gone into your registry into the RUN commands and needs removing from there.
