Yup your well out of it now, traffic shaping throttling you name it they do it on there, even if your on MAX up to 8mb you only get about 56k dial up speeds or less. :p

With regards to ADSL ISPs, it's a code that you obtain from your ISP and you can then use it to sign up to a new ISP. Using this method, the idea is that you'll see minimal downtime (often only a couple of minutes).

Before the MAC scheme came about the only way to move ISP was to cancel ADSL on the line and then order it again; a process that could take a couple of weeks.
 
ok i have just taken the bt speed test! the results are below:

IP profile for your line is - 6500 kbps
DSL connection rate: 448 kbps(UP-STREAM) 7616 kbps(DOWN-STREAM)
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 3022 kbps

all i can say is thank god i got away from tiscali while i could! just look at the speeds at which i can download at. V POOR
