Hi all,

After a littl while of toying with the idea I finally decided to bite the bullet and get myself a PS3 and I must say I am pleasently suprised.

I managed to the console with RFOM, Motorstorm, Fantastic 4 Blu ray and a second controller for £390 which isn't too bad. (well its a lot but meh :p )

First impressions of the PS3, well its built very well, its very heavy and its ruddy huge. The controller is stupidly light, however I am having no issues playing any game with it.

I like all of the features it has especially the integral web browser (small thing I know but I like it) - The built in wifi is handy as well.

Games wise well I was thoroughly impressed with resistance and motorstorm isn't too bad either (interesting with the sixaxis control). GT:HD looks very nice as well.

The blu ray looked pretty sweet although I don't have the SD version of the film for a direct comparison.

Overall then I am very pleased with my purchase however I am definately keeping my xbox 360 as that way I can have the both of best worlds. :)

A couple of questions if you would indulge me:

1) Can I play GT4 on the ps3 (I have not really followed its backwards compatibility listings)
2) I understand you can install linux on the PS3, has anyone done this? What is it like (linux noob here) lol.

Anyway I am off to play RFOM followed by a bit of Forza 2. :D

I'm always thinking about getting one, blu-ray for one is something I want to get into, but I'd still like there to be a few more games that I know I would play on it before I bite the bullet, also I'm kinda wanting the price to drop first too, so I dont buy one then regret not waiting.

Plus' and minus' for me;

++ Blue ray
++ Wireless
+ Free online service
+ RFOM/Heavenly Sword
+ Looks quite sexy specially those controller chargers
+ HDMI (aready got 2 VGA sources plugged in my TV lol)

--- Price
-- PS/PS2/PS3 controllers make my hands hurt
- No rumble
- Too few games that I can't already get on my 360
- Lack of AA or good AA on a lot of titles

Not the darkside if you enjoy it :). And I assume you have a 360 from the siggy so you end up getting the best of both worlds, if I had the cash I would prob do the same.

Glad its your'e enjoying it so far, GT:HD is ok but look at the GT5 vids on the PSN to see how it will turn out. Also get Tekken 5 DR and Super Stardust HD both great games and i think it will cost about £13 for the 2.
GT4 plays fine on the PS3 think theres a glitch in the intro movie but rest is fine.
Ive installed linux on my PS3, Yellow Dog flavour, ive not played with linux much before but have used it a bit on my PS3, still getting used to it really, I will get a book at some point though.
For any more info check out the PS3 sticky some nice person done last week, even though he's been to busy to finish it all yet. :D

The GT5 video's are jaw achingly good, they put forza to shame. Unfortunately for whatever reason, microsoft wont bring any baseball games to the UK lineup on 360, which is what i enjoy most about my PS3, currently really enjoy The Bigs, a sort of NBA jam version of baseball.

If your looking for more games, I can highly recommend:

The Darkness
Rainbow Six: Vegas
Tekken
Ninja Gaiden Sigma

All fantastic IMO.

Best of both worlds would be a 360 + Wii as the PS3/360 offer a very similar experience. Obviously all 3 would be the best if you could afford it.

What are you using it for? Tempted to do the same and use it as a silent download box.

I just bought one aswell, it arrives tomorrow!

2 month old, 60gb, 3 games (2 unopened) F1, Motorstorm, RFOM, blueray remote (unopened), HDMI lead, Keysonic keyboard (built in touchpad, unopened) and casino royale, £395, seemed an ok price and above all I could use paypal where I had a shedload of money hooked up so I bought it :)

Thats all 3 I have now, 360 gets the most use, me and the boy like co-op games.Wii I'm afraid to say has not been switched on in months now, it lost its thrill after a while in my opinion, we will keep it though.

I've not really been tempted before but here are a few games coming that persuaded me to get one (little big planet, heavenly sword, hotshots golf).
I'm probably going to want a 1080p screen now to replace the 1366x768 one I have at the moment :/

Just trying stuff out with it, had a little play with open office works well and its better than many of the full price ones you buy. Used Firefox a bit for it via WiFi (works since version 5.02), but you have to set your router to WEP. Got a torrent client set up on it, not used it though, cant remember which one it is ill have a look. VLC player works well to play all the AVI's and MKV files Ive got without having to recode them. Oh and of course the games that come with it like Mahjoong, solitaire etc, theres a few other game type things you can use on it but better not mention on here.

The wii holds no interest for me at all and I asn't going to waste £179 on something I won't use.

Cheers for the information so far guys, I will take a look at linux soon although I think I will get used to the rest of the system first.

Games wise I am looking forward to Haze at the moment although there are others that interest me as well. I already have RB6:Vegas on the 360 so I don't want that on the ps3.

Wiiija: Just to let you know the keysonic keyboard works excelllently with the PS3 (and also the 360) as thats what I am using to type this on the PS3 web browser lol.

I have noticed one drawkback to the PS3 however, I can't play on the 360 at the same time lol.

Wonder if you could get Americas Army running on it
They heavily restrict the power you can access, mostly restricting the 3D graphics rendering parts of the graphics card iirc.

It plays HD mkvs in Linux? If so that's it, it'll save me re-encoding everything to WMV for the 360 !

I am with you on this.
I really want to play RFOM and F1 but I just can't justify the current retail price on this offer.
I will only buy brand new (less hassle) and due to one or two morons I've recently encountered, I point blank refuse to spend that kind of money on a certain auction site.
Fingers crossed the announced Xbox 360 price drops will encourage Sony to do a price drop in the not too distant future.
