I got my bill in from Pipex for last month and to my shock horror it was £36.00
It's normally £22.49 for my 8mb (15gig a month limit) broadband and phone package so I was rather alarmed.
I emailed them and as usual it took them 3 days to reply saying I had went over my 15gig limit and they had been charging me £2.70 per 3gig after that.
They also told me that I had used 26gig all in last month and from the 1st up till today I had used 29gig, wtf???
They thoughtfully advised me to intall a bandwidth/network monitor which I did and nothing appeared to be using it. I then watched a movie and in the 2hrs I had not checked on my PC it uploaded 1.6gig and downloaded 24mb.
This Pc is used mainly for downloading and used like a server on my network as I have all my films, pics and vids on it that I access with my laptop or HTPC in my livingroom.
I have run Spybot and Adaware and at the mo I am running them in safe mode to see if they pick up anything as they never found anything when I ran them earlier. Should I just reformat and start again for safety ?

Was the movie 1.6gb?
Lol, nope the movie was in a different room and although connected to my network only used 700mb.
You have got me thinking though, it might be adding to my bandwith usage as it measures through the network card. Off to check that just now :-)

And you are right enough my friend, phew!!
Still does not explain my massive usage, will phone my ISP tomorrow and ask if they can give me times etc.

what connection are you on that can upload 1.6gb in 2 hours?
About 2mb (233KB/s to be precise ;)).

I find this interesting...
"What if I go over my monthly usage allowance?
While other ISP's operate a 'fair usage policy', which restricts usage over a certain allowance, Pipex allows you to purchase an additional 3GB of usage for £3 should you need it. Most customers never need this facility, but should you need it we will let you know in advance."

I am on the 8mb as I said earlier but only get about 6mb maximum download and 360kb/s upload. (distance from the exchange)
What's really annoying is that I have supposedly used 29gig in 21 days and have another 9days to go, what's my bill going to be like???
As for the additional 3gb, what's annoying about that is that Pipex have been billing me wrongly for the last year and I keep getting emails telling me that I have used all my Pipex lite allowance but they have added another 3gig. I keep mailing them back telling them I'm not on Pipex lite but it keeps happening, this is why I never noticed anything was wrong. So if suddenly I'm using over double what I usually use I think I have a problem :-(
When I asked to be put on Pipex Max till I sort it out I was told
Quote: It will be best to switch to Pipex MAX . Unfortunately changing to the new versions of the packages is not currently possible due to technical issues with the re-grading process. We hope to have this resolved as soon as possible. (talk about stuffed right up the Ar5e)

do you have wireless ?

did you not notice the slow net speeds ?

MW
I never had slow net speeds.
The problem has been resolved, it's all at my ISP's Side!!!
Been on the phone for ages to them as everything is ok at my end, after being up half the night going through my 2 Pc's and 2 laptops.
It seems I have only used an Extra 6gig last month, that I can explain and this month I am not upto 29gig as told by customer services I am in fact at 18gig, only 3gig over. They are doing an investigation of my billing as it's all over the place and of my broadband service.
Also on top of that I am changing to Pipex Max with Telephone which is £20. a month Versus £22.49 a month and has a monthly limit of 30gig.
Only thing different is with the calls package free evening and weekend instead of anytime.
Anyone want to bet that this will still not be sorted for my next bill at the end of the month???

Off topic (sorry), but how have your game pings changed from the move?

Well Ive moved but I used to have a Pipex connection ( not my choice! ) and now Ive got BE

So far, pings have been around 20-30 with BE rather than the usual 50-70 with Pipex

BE pings might even drop more if I ask for Fastpath to be turned on since Im nice and close to the Exchange
