Tiny bit of background.
In March 2011 I got a 550D (+18-55 kit lens and EF 70-300mm) as I wanted to get in to photography and I've always treated it as a starter so that if I got in to it I'd update to better one later.
That time has come and I was all set to look at the Canon 6D but the specs seem to have disappointed many and I know it's unfair to judge without seeing reviews etc.
However, the husband of someone at work works for Canon and he is allowed to get Canon stuff for friends and family up to a certain limit each year.
I asked what the 6D would be but he said it's not available yet, and besides, the first runs would go out to stores so it would be 4-6months after release before he could get one. Just out of curiosity I asked about the 5D3 +24-105mmL package (brand new in the box exactly as you get in a shop). He came back with a price of £2075. That's just about a grand less than Jessops and 500 less than DigitalRev.
Should I bite his hand off? [I suspect I already know the answer to this

I do feel like I'm ready to upgrade my camera but I suspect the 5D3 might be a bit advanced for me to begin with but I'm happy to learn and update my lenses accordingly. I already have the 100mmL macro and I've been looking at other L lenses too. The 24-105 is a very good general lens anyway for most things.
