Hi all,

I bought this form OC about 3 weeks ago and it rocks.

Got 32000 in 3DMark Vantage

Case: Xigmatek Utgard Midi Tower - Black
- Power Supply: Corsair TX 650W
- CPU: Intel Core i7 950 3.06GHz overclocked to 4.00GHz
- Motherboard: Gigabyte X58A-UD3R Intel X58 (Socket 1366) DDR3 Motherboard
- RAM: Corsair XMS3 6GB (3x2GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Triple Channel Kit
- Hard Drive: Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 1TB SATA-II 32MB Cache
- Graphics Card: GeForce GTX 580 1536MB GDDR5
- Sound: Realtek 7.1 Channel Sound (On-Board)
- Optical Drive: LG DVD+/-RW SATA Drive
- 120 SSD hard drive
- Colsair H70 water cooler

Was thinking of spending some more money.

Would like some advice on making it a bit more sexy.

The upgrades i was thinking was putting more ram ugrade to 12 or maybe another 580 gtx - if i put in the extra 580 gtx what PSU will i need to upgrade to?. Also if i upgrade to either waht performance will i gain from either upgrades?

Thanks

Nick

You don't need to make it anymore sexy.

Add a Blue ray drive, do you have a awesome monitor?

Hi there,

If you want to make it more sexy them my first suggestions would be to look at the sound card/speakers and monitor, and see how they can be improved.

As for a second GTX 580 - is the one you have not giving you good enough performance? Adding a second will not only greatly increase the power draw, but also significantly heat up your system.

12GB RAM would be a reasonably cheap upgrade, but may I ask what you mainly use the machine for which will make use more than 6GB? Also, if you add in three more sticks (6 total) then you will have to redo your overclock - as 6 sticks puts much more strain on the integrated memory controller that is on the CPU.

Agree with this, and add in an after market soundcard, couldnt believe the difference over onboard when i installed an asus xonar dx.

Ok,

Thanks for that i never thought of the heat issues with a second 580 even though it runs at 68c max under load and i have a toasty room.

The 12 gig upgrade looks a good option but i did not relise i would have to reclock the i7 after. Maybe i should just stay with what i got.

The blueray im not interested in tbh, but not really seen the quality difference from standard DVD.

Thanks for the help

Oh - Agreed best peeps do come from Somereset!!
