I reversed into a work colleagues car and ended up putting my bumper into their rear passenger door, some heavy denting. Totally my fault, and the other owner is cool with it being sorted one way or the other.
They have been told by the garage it would need to be a new door, I I could source one they would fit ( Surprise I can't source one looking about). Other way is straight to the dealership for a new door.
Now I have never been in an accident before never mind hitting another car and it being my fault, anyone any advice?. I took pictures etc. Should I just let insurance sort it, I have no claims protection if that helps.

ebay/ scrape yard door? Depends how new the car is but this is what insurance is for.
2021 Audi A1, looked but no exact matches, door that looks like it but ya know what would happen, different hinge or something.

2021? If I was the owner I'd probably want to go the insurance route but obviously you both might pay for it come renewal time.

I'd say that given the age of that car and damage, don't forget a lot of the wiring and modules tend to be in doors these days, I'd say probably best let insurance sort it, as I reckon that would be a very expensive fix.

I'd put it through my insurance, not ideal but it's less hassle and should cost you less even factoring in the insurance increase at renewal.

Fair, do I just get details then inform my insurance?...seriously NEVER had made a claim before lol. Aint got a clue.

What cars are involved and what year are they each? Do you care to repair the damage to your car as well? What paint finishes are on each of the cars? Do you have the skill and tools to replace a car door yourself?

Yea thats not happenning lol. I can sort my car no worries, I'm not messing about with another persons. Both standard white though at least.

I reckon the repairer will charge like £7k to fix that, on an insurance job I mean.

Reckon it'd be a couple grand minimum otherwise, if there are wiring looms and modules in the door, they may need to get coded etc modern cars are so over engineered now, 30 years ago slap a new door on, spray, job done.

Not anymore.

White is actually one of the hardest colours to get right from what I understand. Allwhite mate?

Personally I'd be looking at availability of doors for that model on ebay and seeing how much they are, then go from there. If the door is more than your excess, I probably wouldn't bother. It's not just the excess over time though. Premiums will be higher for up to 5 years potentially.

That situation sucks... I know from personal experience! I managed to do it in a company car though and wrote off my colleagues :o Not my finest day at work.

I'd go insurance route but if at all possible ask your colleague not to go down the accident management route if offered by their insurance company. My colleague did that as they said he'd get a nice courtesy car for a couple of weeks. Which he did, a brand new BMW 540i M-Sport. They then slow rolled the appraisal of his car and the rest of the process as much as possible and the hire car bill came to thousands which was then argued by the other insurance company. The claim took YEARS to settle although thankfully my colleague was paid out quite quickly. He also bought the car back as salvage and drove it with a dented door until it became an MOT failure a few years later anyway!

Yea, contact your insurance and let them know his details also, they should pick it up from there and handle it without fuss as if it avoid his insurance company it keeps their costs lower.

I wrote mine off in July this year by turning into a side road and going on the wrong side straight into a car coming the other way.

I just gave all the details to my insurance and let them handle everything as that’s what I’ve paid them for all these years. As I immediately admitted liability (all photos showed my car on the wrong side of the road…) they paid me out within a week. I’ve no idea what happened with the other car, apart from it was written off too.

Haven’t spoken to them since which is ideal.

Interestingly, the car was MOT’d a few weeks ago…
