A friend was saying her laptop keeps d/c from internet and is very slow, so i took a look. Their wireless signal was very low even when right next to the router.

I took their laptop home and it connects to my router with exellent strength even in my garden. So i took my router to their house, plugged it in, and the strenght is very low

How can this be? Its fine in my house yet the same router same settings and same laptop has next to no signal strenght in their house? Even when i stand over the router.

I cant figure this out. Ive got their router now at my house, my laptop and their laptop have connected with full signal. Yet in their house its next to nothing.

Can anyone help me? I can't figure out whats causing this? Has to be something in their house surely?

Sounds to me like lots of radio interference on the same frequency. Have you tried changing the channel ID to see if it makes it any better/worse?

I tried one or two channels and all where same. I know the my router works (Linksys WRT54GL) as ive had it for years with no issue. I know both laptops are working as they are both sitting here full signal on both routers. They just get no signal in their house.

Ill try all the channels tomorrow, if this doesn't work, what would else could i try?

I know that DECT phones can interfere (Mine did until we got rid of them). But AFAIK that is only when they are in use. Have you tried moving the router to a different location in her house?

No haven't tried that. Not sure if it will be possible, all depends on how they have it wired up i suppose!

Ill pop up after work and try all 11 channels. If not then im outta ideas :o

I had similar issues at a flat i stayed in in Glasgow. Big old turn-of-the-century thing. Had a wireless router in one corner of the room and had crappy signal on a laptop in the other corner. Bloody ridiculous. Probably a combination of thick concrete and steel and electrical devices (TV, Sky, etc) and digital phones. Gave up in the end. Didn't try wireless N or anything before i moved though.

Ya know what they say; location, location, location...
