Just realised that the reason my pen drive isn't mounting is because i plugged the fron usb header cable into the daned firewire 1394 header on the mobo.
Whatever usb port on whatever pc i plug the pen drive into now, it just gets very hot and certainly won't mount.

I think i've b0ll0xed it good and proper.......and it was a 16Gb drive with about 14Gb of stuff on it. There was bound to be some important and irreplaceable info on there.

Does anybody have any idea if i'll be able to recover it without going to rip-off merchants who charge £000's for a few Gb's. :(

If it isn't recognised by device manager then recovering anything (if possible) requires more than just recovery software.

(if it has shorted it could damage USB ports so I wouldn't connect it directly to motherboard but powered hubs)

yer if it wont work now your probably pretty buggered. cant see how a data retrieving company could get anything off either tbh.

Not sure how alike they are to HDD recovery, but I had a buggered HDD once, wouldnt show up in device manager but the recovery program found it and managed to get some bits off.

Also, these companies that do charge, only normally charge if they can recover the info, so if it is valuable, then may be worth it.
