My Dell U3014 is arriving tomorrow!! yay!

I'm in a strange position for the first time, since before the internet (remember that?) I'm getting some kit before any proper hands on review from the usual places. Got memories of looking though computer magazines and aspiring as a kid to 4gb quantum fireballs and 8mb ram, 2mb graphics cards and DX4-100 CPUs - sigh... anyway.. It's a Dell Ultrasharp so enough said for me. I've been so happy with my 2405wfp since it's release I'll be sad to see it go.

I'm no reviewer, but if you have anything you want to see or any questions you want answered from someone hands on ask away..

I'm a little worried about Dells track record on new monitor models, but I got a 5yr warranty with it so i'm not too bothered, and no, I didn't pay full price :p

where did you order your monitor from?

If its not OcUK then he's not allowed to say.

yeah I already got banned once for that... :( anyway - seems like they were lying, fingers crossed for tomorrow.

I don't believe it's arrived in the uk yet and so places likely have it for pre order only and arrival dates might fall back a bit. Let us know when you get it. I'll have one very soon for review too :)

It's arrived!! I've just plugged it in and using it now. It's massive! :)

I've literally just unboxed it and plugged it in. In the box you get a dvi cable, mini displayport cable, cd and manual and a calibration report.

Plugging cables in is a complete pain in the bum I have to say. There is no swivel and minimal height adjustment so getting your hand under (or head) well like I said, it's a real pain in the bum. I don't go back there very often so once it's all in it's in I guess.

The colours look really really nice. It will take some getting used to because my eyes are used to a softer colour from the old monitor, but I am enjoying it so far.

Not had much of a chance to play with the menu yet. I don't like the touch controls much, they don't seem very responsive - could be my fat thumbs though! I have to switch between displayport and dvi quite a lot, (have you seen the price of displayport kvms!) Time will tell if it's worth me getting one depending how much the touch menu annoys...

There are several preset modes, standard, multimedia, movie, game, paper, colour temperature, colour space and custom. I think standard looks about the best.

I working at the moment and like I said, I don't really know what you want info on so any questions please ask.

Still not arrived, but according to UPS, anytime today!

How are you getting on with getting hold of one badass

had it a couple of days ago but still in it's box as trying to finish some other reviews. should be connecting it up later/tomorrow and review coming within a couple of weeks :)

Will have to check it out when you've got the review up :)
they do look pretty damn good, skint atm tho :(

Tell ye what Badass after yer review send it to me for ..
erm..
"testing purposes only" yeah? :p ;)

.

Please be aware that Im positive that in my 3011 I only got a single link dvi cable. This may have been a mistake on Dell's part, I never chased it up as I had a double anyway, but be careful and enjoy!!!

had some more time to play with it, after not really being that overwhelmed, I'm still not. Couple of issues really, it's not a jump up from the sharpness of the 2405 I was expecting, I had to actually lower the sharpness from the default 50 setting to 40, which give a more "natural" text display. I was having a weird problem in cnc3 - kane's wrath where the world colour was switching, i turned off all the auto settings I could find and that seems to have solved it - for now.

I had another go at the last mission of ME2 at the collector base (HD5770 coped well, good little workhorse! @ 2560x1600) but there is an annoying lightness in the corners nut especially bottom left. It feels like you are looking through a tube, you see the centre of the display but the corners are so "bright" and curved, it does look like you are looking at the centre of the screen though a tube. Not good. I hope you get what I mean. I'm only sitting about 30-40cm from the screen, but looking back and changing angle doesn't help. Not tried uniformity tests yet. would be interested if baddass notices this problem and can articulate better than I. I don't really see it on a windows desktop, so I imagine just on dark scenes, early days though.

all in all, gotta say. for £1k, I'm underhwhelmed. perhaps I was expecting too much or not using it in the way it was intended....

I didn't notice ANY input lag with above games at all btw.

getting on with the touch controls a bit more now, light touches seem to work better. I do like the plastic on the bezel, it has a scored texture to it that's quite nice. I wish I had more positive things to say about it. Maybe the 2405fpw was just ahead of it's time.

sorry for double post. I have s 55" sony tv that was awesome when I bought it. But my optima HD230x blew me away, amazing for the money. Was expecting similar with monitors..
