HP DV7T 1000

Hi all, i've been using overclockers for nearly 3 years now, but im new to the forums ;P

just wondered if anyone else had one, and what you guys make of it.

http://www.shopping.hp.com/webapp/s...ertainment+powerhouse&series_name=dv7t_series

Specs for mine are:

Intel Centrino 2 T9400 2.53ghz
4gb DDR2
Dual 320gb 7200rpm HDDs
512mb GeForce 9600M GT
17" WSXGA Infinity Screen 1680x1050
8 Cell Battery
Lightscribe Super Multi DVD+/-RW (didnt want blu-ray)

cost came just over 1k :P

We've got to pay 1199 POUNDS for that in the UK, , Jeeez, but its very nice.

Thats from looking at the same spec on the UK HP site.

Yeah i realised i couldnt get one with the exact specs i wanted, so i had to order from US. :P

i guess it worked out cheaper in the end, just need to really test the gaming performance for it. So far i find it jerks a little running guitar hero 3, will be testing Warhammer Online over the weekend :)

apart from that it seems to completely run fine.

What's the 17" WSXGA Infinity Screen 1680x1050 screen like?

I'm looking at ordering a new HP laptop but from the US. I will get it shipped to my work's New York address, then forwarded on to me in this country. :D

ohh, I didnt know you could order from the US....

What did it come to in pounds ? or was the "just over 1k" in pounds?

How does warrenty work once the laptop is in the UK ?

The WSXGA Screen is fine for me, i did read a review saying it isnt bright enough or something? not too sure on that, but it responds nice and fast, good for movies and gaming so far :)

as for price, yes it was just over 1000pounds, i dont have a pound sign on keyboard so its a bit of a pain at times hehe. As for getting it shipped, i had to pay an extra 68 pounds for custom tax, which still works out a little cheaper and better spec'd than the UK version

As for warranty, i believe i've got 1 year. I havent exactly looked into it, but im taking loads of precautions to take care of this machine so i dont damage it in any way :p

Haha, I forgot all about the pound sign!! I'm impressed that the customs tax was £68 pounds, thought it would be more.

One thing, how did you get HP to deliver to a UK address?

oh, it was some guy over ebay, he just got it custom built in the HP factory for me, and sent it to me within the next 5 working days.

Ahh i think ive seen that guy on there before with the laptops, mentioning he can get it built for you...

Main thing is the warranty im thinking about... and the shipping costs to an extent

EDIT: Does you warrantly also apply out of the US ? and can we extent the warranty for the UK ? Dunno if you would know these...

i've just got a message back from the ebay guy, he sent me this message regarding my laptop:

You should have no problems with warranty,

It's a standard 1 year warranty and if you need any warranty service, please refer to the HP service tag on the bottom of your wonderful laptop. There should be a list of HP tech / customer support and their phone number for each country enclosed with your lappy.

Nice guy really, great communication and kept me updated throughout the process of getting it sent to me.

hehe, go for it, i waited a few weeks until he had some huge HP discount or something, knocked around $150 off the overall price :P

I had one Similar, but sent it back. Had nothing but trouble from those "touch sensitive" buttons for Wireless/Volume etc there refused to function a lot of the time. I Heard and read that it was a common problem with the new DV range. However, everything else ran very good (DV 1020EA)

I now Have a Sony VAIO Laptop coming Wednesday:) Having thought long and hard about it, i don't think Gaming with laptops is a practical solution for me, since i already have a Gaming Desktop. Each to there own though, .......

I've got a DV7-1000EA. First 2 I got were faulty but on my third one now its appears to be ok.

Specs:
Intel Centrino 2 P73500 2ghz
4gb DDR2
320gb 5400rpm HDDs
512mb GeForce 9600M GT
17" WXGA Infinity Screen 1440x900
Blu-Ray ROM with SuperMulti DVD±R/RW Double Layer

I'm thinking of putting 2 7200rpm drives in mine, how hot does your chassis get with 2 7200rpm drives in there and how battery life??

Cheers

never actually played around with the touch sensitive buttons, apart from just turning mute and wireless on/off, nothing really wrong with those, i did kind of remove all the junk software and stuff that HP bundled with the laptop, the touch sensitive buttons seem to work with windows media player, or media player classic, so its fine. i mostly just use the remote sometimes when im watching some movies.

As for for 2x 7200rpm Hard drives, they're located under where i put my left palm, at first the heat bothered me a bit, say it felt like around 60ish celsius but after removing the remote from the express card slot, and tweaking vista so it doesnt rape your hard drive constantly, they dont really get anything too hot, i'd say around 40ish at most.

I'll get some screendumps of the actual temperatures later, cant find the software for it :(

EDIT 2: temperature screendump, its pretty much an idle shot, as i've only got msn, firefox and a couple of folders up.

As for battery, it seemed to last quite a few hours when i just left it on idle, that was before i tweaked windows vista, as i noticed my hard drive lights are constantly blinking for no reason at all. I havent really tested battery performance after i moved to london.

maybe this is a dumb question, is it true that the battery gradually gets worn down if you leave it in the laptop and continually used mains? At the moment i've just got the battery sitting out of the laptop and on my desk.

just ran crysis on the laptop hehe at 1680x1050 with all high settings, it loaded ingame, hmm i'd say it was at around 5FPS? so not exactly playable, nice to know it loads :)
Playable settings with around 20FPS and over were on 1360x768 with mostly high and medium settings
