I broke 100k in Folding. :D

Having problems with the farm at the moment so for the last 3 weeks I've really been down on production. I'm desperate for an Intel Mac screen saver edition as well, since I've got 9 machines sat there unable to fold. :(

But.. 100k, woo! :D

If you really want to get them working it is possible to set up a cron job that would only activate when the system becomes idle for a particular amount of time.

How come you need a screensaver client to fold on those macs?

Because they're machines used for heavy duty audio/video work. I really, really can't run the risk of a missed frame/dropped sync that running something like Folding in the background could cause. Hence the screensavers are ideal - if the machine is truely dormant it kicks in.

Billy that sounds ideal since I do want to get them crunching. What do I do?

Or.. I've just thought - I could schedule them to crunch for say 12 hours over night. That's got me thinking now! :)

Alright, I suck. I've been able to get it to stop folding when Finder.app is running but it's quite fickle. I start up and log in and FAH is running. I launch InCrease and FAH stops. I close InCrease and FAH remains stopped. I log out and log in as a different user and it starts again.

I'm still workin' on it but I thought I'd give you a wee update on my lack of helpfulness. :(

No worries chap, any help is good help. Even the boffins at Folding aren't too sure how best to do it! :) The thread is here:

Anyways, for the moment I've just set them to run it full time since the machines aren't getting that much use. Obviously if there's problems I'll have to turn it off, but for now it's a few more extra ghz on the job. ;)

Total of the farm is now:

1x G5 dual 2.7ghz
1x G4 dual 1.25ghz
10x eMac 700mhz,
1x P4 2.4ghz
7x iMac 1.83ghz CD
2x iMac 2.0ghz C2D
2x iMac 1.8ghz G5
2x iMac 2.0ghz G5

It all helps :D
