I got told that its unlikely I'll get one before Xmas, although I might be lucky :/

Is is that bad already? why the hell don't companies get a decent amount of stock to ship before they release?

I suspect that it may just be a standard reply to anyone that pre-orders in order to save disappointment. I believe Nintendo themselves have said that there should be plenty of stock. I've pre-ordered with GAME who generally get the UK's largest allocation of new console releases.

Companies do, but GAME get anywhere between 30-50%.
Gameplay get a huge chunk too.

So all the other companies fight amongst themselves for stock.

The same thing happened with the Xbox360, my advice is to order via Argos, I got one 8 weeks after all pre-orders were 'stopped' as there was no stock.

I've heard from various places that gamestation are very close to nintendo and tend to get priority over other retailers when it comes to things like this, hope it has some truth in it. Plus I just traded in my psp and three psp games for 160 quid store credit so thats all going towards the wii :D

Well I work for GS and if it's anything like our store we can no longer promise a machine before christmas I think the first like 30 or so are confirmed for day 1 (we've got like 45 total) but we have to tell all customers that we cannot guarantee there achines for day 1 (just to cover ourselves)
So its a possible that there were just covering themselves and you'll probably get your machine or they have really taken too many orders and it's unlikley you'll get your machine for christmas, like others have said GAME will get the most machines for luanch but TBH honest nobody knows how many their getting yet theres no point speculting until then however I would expect a lot more machines than we saw for the 360 luanch ;)

Hmm, I just get this feeling that Maidstone is probably not a gaming-orientated town so I'm hoping they'd be covering their backs.

I'd love to get one on launch day as its the first console i've preordered (bar psp and ds i imported) so its kinda special for me :D

I'm not going to preorder and just walk into store on launch. Managed it with the 360, and I'll manage it with a revolution damnit ! :D

I should think you could walk into any woolworths or.........other high street retailers and buy one straight off the shelf with no problems.

There's so many bloody places round here which will sell them i'm confident of getting one launch day, people quite often overlook places like Woolies etc plus there's a couple of independent stores round here.
