I know I keep doing this but....

Forget 290X/780Ti, you get better "bang for buck" with the 780/290 - especially on the Radeon side, where you can just flash the BIOS on the 290 for 290X speeds.

I agree that the 780/290 are better value, but the same could be said about an i7 over an i5. I suppose it depends on what the op wants. If he wants the fastest card from the off then go for a 290x or 780ti (Titan black not included).

I wouldn't spend over £2k on a laptop again. The idea was to have small PC and be more mobile than with a desktop, but the same computing power.

The result:
1. inflexibility to upgrade
2. inflexibility in parts
3. noise of the bloody fans to keep the processors cooled and high temperatures anyway

Yea after doing more reading I decided it would be a bit silly of me to spend nearly 2k on a laptop instead of just buying all the parts and building one myself

I do really want the 780ti from the off to maximise future proofage really. Not sure if that is necessarily the case but in my head that whats happening :)

I can save you EVEN more money! :)

Just do what your wife would do with a new outfit. One week it's new shoes and a dress, a few weeks later its a new handbag to go with the shoes!

Don't buy any graphics cards at all, build your new system maybe wait a few weeks for the new mouse and mouse mat that's £66.97 off the initial build cost. Keeping the 250GB SSD would be a good idea as Canary Wundaboy said a 120GB can fill up mighty fast! A mate at work bought a 60GB SSD as it was cheap he regrets its now, I have a 120GB but I don't install games much on my pc.

Then when the wife least expects it BUY your new graphics card, she won't see the cost as part of the main pc build. :)

Just look at how easy it is to spend £1500 on ebay in a year and have nothing big to show for it.

As for is it stupid to spend £2000 on a pc? It depends what you use your pc for and how much you earn against your bills etc. You may earn £10000 more than me so you would still be £8000 richer. :D

Firewallblocked, that's the best idea ive heard so far! :)
I definitely agree that it's better to have something to show for the money. I bet I could spend £1500 on chocolate and other crap in a year.

Spend as much as you can afford mate. My mentality in life. If your going to struggle after spending it, probably not wise however. Money is simply that... money. It's made for spending :)
