Morning guys. I picked up a B Grade 680GTX for £199 from OCUK a few days back, and I'm temporarily using it with an A5800k CPU. Clearly not ideal, but will the CPU totally cramp the GPU's style?

Thanks for the feedback. Nearer Christmas I will be jumping ship to Intel.

You can find out for your self how bad it is all you have to do is play a game with something like gpuz running in the background and logging the result and just play a game the lower the load the bigger the bottle neck.

Only way the help this is oc your CPU but this will require you to buy at least a £30 CPU cooler.

That should be able to go to 4.2 with a decent cooler as for how much of a bottleneck it will be after - why not do some benches now, then after and see?

If you're jumping ship, you're only living with the bottleneck for like under 2 months.
But the amount you'll bottleneck will depend on the game.

OC the CPU to near death levels to get max. performance before you bin it anyway :P

This includes zip-tieing extra fans near the cooler etc.

At least it'll bottleneck less and you probably wont use it any more anyway.

depends what games you play and at what settings, of course, but the bottleneck shouldn't be all that bad.

Here's CPU benchmarks with a GTX680;

No 5800k on there, but it tends to perform just behind a FX-4300 (being the same processor minus L3 cache)

Not much bottleneck on the 1080p benchmarks for that selection of games, as you can see.

Thanks for that Cheesyboy. That's actually better than I thought. I probably will still go down the intel route, but at least I should be able to game to a sensible level in the short term.
