Hi All

I have owned the original ROG swift since launch back in 2014?ish. It has done me well but i have moved house and im setting my wife a new office up; so she can have the PG278Q and ill get myself a new toy. However since i have been looking the market seems flooded and confusing - and review sites and youtubes arent helpful. So what i want:

27"
144hz
1440p
Variable refresh rate (i own an rtx2080)
4ms response

I havent settled on an IPS or VA - but my set up is in a loft room so not very bright - and i like a high contrast ratio and mainly play BFV so i would also like HDR.

So i guess IPS with HDR or a VA?

The one thing i really dislike about my ROG Swift is the washed out blacks of the TN. I have an OLED TV so really appreciate HDR and true blacks.

Budget - £500-£600

Can i get some recommends?

thanks

If you’re struggling with the blacks and contrast of your PG278Q then I think you’d find an IPS replacement very similar. A VA panel would improve things for sure, although you may notice a drop in responsiveness for gaming given the screen you’re moving from now. I suppose it depends how much and what type of gaming you do as to whether that’s going to be a problem.

I would forget about HDR support here, as you’re not going to find any meaningful HDR experience in that kind of price range I’m afraid. Many will be labelled as HDR capable or with the HDR400 “certification” even, but they don’t offer any real improvements to dynamic range https://www.tftcentral.co.uk/blog/w...dr-at-all-and-why-displayhdr-400-needs-to-go/

Although it’s 32” the LG 32GK850 models are very popular and offer the kind of specs you’re after

Great thanks. I need to stick to 27" due to space in under eves room etc . I guess I could save longer if it meant getting a better experience. I figured I paid £600 years ago when the technology was just emerging so figured you would get way more for £600 these days.

Viewing angles aren't an issue as I always sit right in front so VA maybe the way to go ... Are there any hdr10 monitors that are 1440p or are they all 4k?

I mainly play FPS

4k isn't achievable at frames I like on a 2080 so no point splashing on 4k

You’ll find some that accept an HDR10 input source but it’s largely pointless if the screen can’t then display a HDR picture and actually offer an improved dynamic range :)
