I like yum. I like .rpm. I don't like sudo and don't need a GUI. I need?

As above? Mainly going to be used for a Squid server. I liked CentOS but there is no point having the GUI. Just want a stripped down to basics fast distribution.

While I am at it, what is a good routing program(/OS?) thinking of decommissioning my Cisco 2611XM from internet duties. Would be great if it had IOS like ACL for port forwarding etc.

Thanks.

CentOS but deselect the graphical package?

Like above, unless you are blindly clicking next next next on all the options CentOS can be made as thin as you like.

Even if you do install the GUI, just edit the inittab and set the default boot to init 3 and it will disable the GUI at startup giving you the option to use it at a later date if necessary.

Another vote for pfsense. Few minor niggles with the additional packages you can install but it's been a while since I used it, prolly fixed by now.

If you don't want a gui, man up and get slack :P

I'm using PFsense for my router now. Shame it doesn't have FTP/samba shares though. Losing out on a backup...

Not built in but pretty sure you can set it up within openBSD. I would be shocked if it was not possible!

Another vote for PFsense!
Were currently using it for load balancing 3 adsl lines at work, pfsense made it a breeze!!
If only i could get VPN's working! (probably down to me being dumb)

It wasn't terrible but I couldn't sleep with it on. Now I need air con though. Room is uncomfortable. :(

Can now use it for CCNP stuff. ;)
