I miss my Microsoft Intellimouse Optical

Hi all,

I've been using a Razer Lachesis for a few years now and I've never found it felt as good at the Intellimouse Optical. For some reason my aim just felt truer with the Intellimouse.

I'm an avid FPS player and I must admit I was much better at CS etc on my old mouse. I'm still usually top of the server when I play, but my deaths are much higher, it used to be rare for me to die, but now I die every other round.

I'm older and more arthritic than I was back then so maybe it's just a bad workman blaming his tools, but I can't help but think that the Intellimouse was just more "me".

So, I'm looking for a modern day mouse which will bring back the old feeling of complete acuracy that I miss so much. It went exactly where I pointed it, every time without fail.

These day's I'm finding that no matter what DPI or sensitivity I use I just don't get that raw acuracy that I used to get.

Could it be the difference between laser and optical? I really don't know.

Are there settings on my lachesis I should using to make it feel less clinical and more natural?

Any suggestions on a replacement if not?

Cheers,

G

Thanks for the article, very interesting read. Co-incidentally I literally read it all in my lunch break before posting this :D

I've still got no clue which mouse I want haha! I'm going to try another Intellimouse tonight to see if it still has the same charm at 2650x1080.

If I can find it in all the junk in the loft!

Cheers,

G

Hmmm Mionix Avior 7000 looks good too! The more I read about this the more I like it. Also Level Cap really likes it and he plays the same gamesas me (very well I might add) so that's a plus too.

I'm thinking I would like to try going back to optical, and this has a very good optical sensor from what I'm reading.

I'm using a Razer Ouroboros right now, first impressions, way too heavy. I've taken the battery out and if I get one I will never use it with the battery in.

Buttery smooth tho

It's been discussed quite heavily that in terms of accuracy optical mice are much better than laser mice, so it's not that far fetched to think your accuracy has gotten worse since you made the switch from optical to laser!

I'm not familiar with the size/shape of the MS offering but i've been looking at getting a Mionix Castor but am waiting for them to drop in price a bit!

Here's a guide from the csgo subreddit it may be worth having a look at!

IntelliMouse is legendary, so good and so cheap and for it's day it looked awesome. I replaced mine with a Razer Copperhead around 2007 and when I switched back to the IntelliMouse while the Copperhead was on RMA I could really feel the difference between the 2 with the Copperhead being better on tracking and it's increased DPI.

I remember getting so frustrated once playing CS trying to line up a headshot with the Intelli, the lightest movement would put the xhair either side of the head, never on it.

WMO/IMO had a really consistent (especially with 250+Hz polling) sensor - no laser mouse I've ever used has come close to it. IMO you want a mouse that has the same sensor as the Zowie FK/EC series (Avago 3090, 3110, etc.).

This will give you a fair idea though IMO half the mice on the list are garbage:

Yep. I love it.

Don't get the Sensei. It has a 9800 laser sensor and suffers from a random 5-10% acceleration at a hardware level. Won't be a problem for causal high sens play but as you can notice that the IMO has a very raw sensor it won't be a good choice for you.

Get either one of these and be happy

Zowie FK/ZA/EC-a
Avior/Castor

Out of the 25 or so mice I currently own these are best. I do love the Intellimouse sensor for accuracy and raw feeling its still the best but the low malfunction speed is no good for my low sens even when upping the polling rate.

I feel the same, except with my Microsoft Habu. I miss that mouse like hell, it's almost impossible to get another.

The only thing that comes close is the Razer Deathadder, but it doesn't feel 100% and the build quality is questionable at best.

Ordered it from France because it was cheaper.

Looking forward to trying it :)

Hopefully £52.89 well spent. Will let people know what I think :)
