Did anyone else play it? It was seriously my most favourite game ever. Today it would have such bad graphics and animations, but it really was fun to play on-line.

I tried Tribes: Vengeance, however it has absolutely nothing over what Tribes 2 was - it's a shame they butchered it.

Any similar game out at the moment? Other than the crap that is Global Agenda?

Yeah, I loved Tribes 2, the best one of the Tribes games.
Loved to play on-line with my mates but I despised general on-line play as it was just so full of brats! - I guess cause it was simple and fun, but it just kinda killed the experience for me.

Tribes 2 will always be the best online fps ever made... [EM] > *

also Howitzer, Tribes was never simple !! the reason tribes wasnt as successful as it should have been was because the learning curve and skill requirements were too high and the casual fps gamer didn't stand a chance.

Yup, I can't see it ever coming back though and it did require more skill than your average shooter. Most people can't grasp that when you shoot, projectiles don't hit instantly they and cannot handle the jet pack system, as well as other opponents moving very fast as well. Top that with skiing.

Nothing else tells you you're a decent FPS gamer when you consistently get mid-airs for years, prediction and spatial awareness is awesome.

It's weird. I found Tribes 2 easier, and I was much better at it, than the new games like Call of Duty and Battlefield lol. Guess I'm weird :P

Loved it yeah do miss it.... remember on tribes 1 even use too spend 5 minutes flying about too get too one way point too secure it only too die in seconds :)

Its a shame it didnt progress/get any better later on.
Having said that a good 2-3 years went from counter strike wasnt that the most online played game of all time?

*raises hand*

Yeah, played it when I was 12-16 in its prime. The game had tons of atmosphere, everything felt so epic and felt like a 'real' war, loved the 64 player katabatic 24/7 games. Lol. :)

Haha I loved that mod that let you build stuff and make forcefield bunkers :P

The Contruct. Yeah, it had some really talented people playing it, building mechs, starships, houses. Some good role playing too went on too.

Played all the way through tribes 1 & 2 I was part of E.M.S then we all moved off into other tribes. FPS games have never been the same since Tribes, boring in comparison. Tribes Vengeance though was shocking and killed it off. Found out recently the servers were still being ran by fans so I might see if I can get it up and running again for old times sake and see how it goes.

I played the game for so many hours that I actually had to uninstall it during my dissertation year lol I miss the old ladder games, the tension in close games was unbeatable by any other game on the market and still to this day nothing comes close. The maidairs were immense and you would hope you were recording a demo when you landed massive midairs from 400m out :D

So what tribe/clans were people in? I was in the Euro league and only had a few games for the UK team in the ladder championships so never got to play against many of the US players.

As said I was in {E.M.S} and then we split off and made @ and after that it was the UK teams etc.

Found t2 on one of my old hd's yesterday. Doesn't take long for the memories to come flooding back, even against the bots.

Game was class in it's day, pretty much nailed all of it's content down to a tee, from base/static defences, support structures, the classes, loadouts and counters.

Taking all of that and adding it to a team based capture the flag, instant brilliant.. so many options it was insane in choice, from solo to team'd op's.

Only shame of it was, the patches.. game wasn't released in a great state, and the fubar with the patches of the time was a turn off. Sierra hardly gave it a chance by firing dynamics the day after it hit retail:(

ofc bf1942 was probaly the bigger nail.

I remember your lot and Eclipse ... my nick was [EM]tega

I started playing Starsiege:Tribes when Tribes 2 was just being released so apart from being schooled on SoA servers and the likes it wasnt until I joined =IFC= for T2 with Fireproof that I became addicted.

Soon left for Electric Mayhem [EM] originally ran by Suds who started the Euroleague and 'The Ladder'. After a year or so I ended co-leading [EM] for a good number of years with DeeVee, we organised a few 'Muppet Tourneys' which proved great fun and a little different to normal ladder matches and the likes. My best years were with the muppets but when the ladder was dying due to most players preferring 'Classic or Cluster' I ended up with [D] some french noob team that consisted of all the best players still looking for normal ladder matches.

I was checking an old hard drive and found a Dynamix folder with 6gig of match replays and videos, a lot of really good stuff in there. People who never played the Tribes games probably don't realise what a truly unique fps they missed out on, once you learnt to jet and ski every other fps became boring and monotonous..

Dont suppose any of you attended the two Tribes Lans we organised in stoke back in the day ?

Didn't attend the Stoke LAN but E.M.S were regulars at the i series from I5 to around i12 I think. Yeah Eclipse was the shoot off clan when E.M.S folded. Good times playing with the likes of Yodo, D^A, SubZero (subsy) Earl Grey, Spawny etc etc.

I do remember [EM] on the servers don't think we ever played against you though in the ladder. I just loved the fact {E.M.S} were seen as the chilled clan and never cared so people used to think they could walk over us. At times I remember the ladder match casts and the commentators being shocked at our defences shock lance skills lol We always gave as good as we got xD

Wish I could find my old Tribes 2 folder. must have been similar in size with all the addons and mods I used to run to get the UI looking better. Vanilla Tribes 2 just looks weird.
