I moved the computer into my room from my brothers. That meant the router had to come along too. Now, the closest telephone socket for the router internet is in my brothers room. So I got a 8 metre telephone extension. There is LOADS of slack on the exension, I only really needed 2 metres.

Since i've moved the router i've seen a drop in speed from 5.5 Mbps to 3.2 Mbps :(
I'm thinking the culprit is the telephone extension wire. Shall I invest in a 5metre RJ11 wire and cut out the middle man, i.e. the telephone extension?

Thanks

It's definitely the extension. The best thing to do would be to plug the router back into your brother's room (or wherever the master socket is) and then run a network cable from the router to your PC.

plug the Router back were it was, then run ethernet cables from the router to the destinations, "RG45 that is" Thats what i have done. Have a very fast 1 gb network :-)

oh yes like Aekeron said ! :-)
