The choice of monitorrs is now very overwhelming so i'm looking for some advice.

I could do with HDMI input for my PS3 and it needs to be a 22 incher. Other than that I'm thinking viewing angle is the next most important thing. I'll be using this in the bedroom/office so I might be viewing from various angles.

Suggestions please?

Budget can proabably go to £200...

What about this LG?

(I know I said 22" but this Dell has had rave reviews round here. I'm tempted)

:confused:

I got the Dell S2209W and I like it. Its not a fancy panel but its 1080p so its good for HD gaming and blu rays etc, decent enough size and looks crisp enough for me. No HDMI but the DVI port is HDCP compatible so I use it with my 360 and to play Blu-ray without any issues.

Viewing angle and TN are mutually exclusive.
TN-panel has major problems in showing uniform colours even when viewed straight on and especially from down angle, like from bed, top edge would start blacking out fast if there's any dark colours in image.

Because of IPS-panel which is free from any notable problems that Dell 2209WA is way best monitor in 22" size.

Yes I know how it works but that's not what OP asked for.
If the OP was not aware of this before he will be now, I guess.

I think I can compromise HDMI, it'll mean tweaking my current sound setup but I'm looking for a good buy.

I have chewed over that Dell and it does seem the one to go for, thanks.

didn't even see that dell, yeah i would get that instead!

If I was stepping up to that plate, is the T260HD essentially the same but at 24"

T220 = 22"
T240 = 24"
etc.

Hmm that 26" LG is certinaly a step up...

I'm just struggling with the strength of IPS vs TN. I know it has a lot to do with viewing angles but I've been looking around, doing lots of thinking and wondering whether IPS is purely for graphic professionals (photog's etc)

I want to buy the 22" Dell but looking very hard to justify an extra £100

t260 would be 26inch, 25.5" to be exact. i am looking at one now, t240 is the 24inch,
t220 the twenty two, but at the lower 1650 x 1050

dont really see the point in paying the extra mons for the HD, unless you feel the need for the dvb card. although i have just noticed the t220 doesnt come with a hdmi hole.

TN has barely any strengths except being cheaper.
Outside outright lying in viewing angles response times advertised for them are rarely anything close to true. 5ms TNs without response time compensation have average response time of 13-15ms while for all good panels (IPS/MVA/PVA) which have used RTC now for many years advertised response time is quite close to actual average response time. Best 2ms TNs achieve slightly under 4ms avg response time but that's again achieved by using RTC because liquid crystals are simply slow. (one reason their further development should be stopped in favour of OLED/SED)
Input lag again has as much to do with design/additional electronics as liquid crystal type. Most of TNs monitors have quite a lot more than very near zero lag and additional electronics for extra functions can increase lag. For example T260HD's 22" counterpart has 30ms lag (similar to for some reason always laggy S-PVA panels made by Samsung) and as features are same except size of the panel that probably applies to whole line.

For "budget price" that Dell is definitely very good.

Ok. Looks like my choice is these two IPS monitors. Now I'm actually torn between 22" and 26". My wallet will probably decide.
