I need a combat fighter game. I have MS Flight Simulator 2004 on the PC if I want to fly planes properly, but I want to jump into a Mig-29 or something and do barrel rolls and fire missiles.

I have a Playstation 2 - this game needs to be for the PS2

Do I need something like Ace Combat? Or would another game better suit my needs?

HELP!

I would suggest the above as well as it's much more fun :D

Dogfights the old fashioned way rather than lock on at 28 miles away and fire 3 missiles before returning to base :D

Falcon 4 on the PC is supposed to be the benchmark for modern combat iirc

Cheers guys but I already have Combat Flight Simulator, I want an arcade type jet fighter game for the PS2 this time.

LOMAC?

Lock On: Modern Air Combat

It's a bit realistic with the controls (so I've heard) but due to that it avoids the rather nasty arcadey feel that often pours from Ace Combat.

Ah, you need Ace Combat.

Just looked at some Ace Combat footage on Youtube - that's the sort of thing I think I'm after, a more advanced version of G-LOC :D

What are the prime differences between the Ace Combat games? The Belken (Balkan?) war one looks like it's newer but in an older setting which appeals. Need to find a list of planes and locations featured in each game I think.

They're set in an alternate reality, so good luck finding locations and countries involved in the fighting :D

Ace Combat Shattered Skies is superb on PS2 and sounds definitely what you are after, you should be able to pick it up fairly cheap nowadays too.

Cheers for the advice dudes, picked up a copy of Ace Combat 5 and it ticks all the boxes

I just got Ace Combat 6 : Fires of Liberation for £25 and it's really good - the graphics are excellent and it's not actually as arcadey as I thought it would be. The planes are modelled in fantastic detail and the scenery is way better than FSX on high settings and it runs smooth as anything.

The storyline is a bit surreal (it is Japanese afterall) but the actual combat is great, and there is plenty of medals, achievements and kill records to keep it a bit deeper.

EDIT - oops sorry just re-read your OP, AC6 is only out for the 360.
