I need a good desk

Hi there,

I'm looking for a nice, fairly attractive computer desk. I'm finding it pretty difficult to be honest. It's pretty easy to find places like this that sell enthusiast PC parts but if you look for desks then you're seemingly restricted to office supply stores. So could any of you recommend a desk or just a good place to find desks?

The desk needs to hold my monitor, little speakers, keyboard, mouse, router, gadgets and other assorted crap but I'd like it be 1m wide or less. There needs to be space underneath for steering wheel pedals so I can't have one of those printer shelves. Not fussed about a keyboard tray but could be useful. Need to be able to clamp my steering wheel to it too.

This looks about right:

but it's the only decent one I've found so far.

Any recommendations?
Thanks

can someone tell me , i use a desk with a pull out drawer , would moving to a desk with just using the table top seem weird to me? i mean height wise if im not used to it?

Thanks for those links guys but most of those desks are basically just tables and far too wide for me. The Fredrik workstation doesn't seem too bad but it's very simple: no drawers, no keyboard draw, no area to hold the pc case.

Any other recommendations or examples of what other people use?

how about argos ? I got my whole office kited out using the argos Marino range of office furniture. It might be argos, but the furniture is supprisingly good quality and the price is not too bad either

Can't go wrong with ikea.

I have the mikael corner desk in white. Paid about 100 quid. Fantastic build quality. My one grumble is that I'm restricted to two monitors due to the shelving.

Personally I find desks with pullout keyboard trays very uncomfortable. A 1m wide desk is also going to be very cramped and uncomfortable. Therefore I think computer desks are something of a misnomer - they are really unsuited to long term computer use.

If that is what you want however, somewhere like argos will have a lot of stock.

I personally struggled to get anything deeper than around 65-70cm when I was looking, and didn't see much I liked with decent dimensions in Ikea.

Went for this in the end: http://www.officesupermarket.co.uk/p/Hawk_Rectangular_Bundle.htm

Brilliant desk. Solid, perfect size and looks good in my room. Pedestal is very nice as well. Solid and perfect for my bits that used to clutter my old desk.

As EdwardTeach says, it's difficult to find a desk that's actually comfortable for long term use. If you get along with a pullout keyboard and want a place for the computer etc. then I'd also say take a look in Argos, they seem to do a pretty good range of those more 'typical' desks.

Well, I think most of my problem is that I don't really know what I want. I'd like it to be a metre or so wide for space restrictions and I don't really want a standard pine desk because that's what I've got now and it is pretty clunky in a living room. I am interested in a keyboard slide as most desks are a little too high for me at 75cm, the slide would put the keyboard at a more comfortable height. The sling seems to make sense as it will keep the case off the floor and away from dust without it having to be on my desk and making loads of noise. It's only the width that's important though. I'm surprised so many of you want huge, deep desks unless that is many of you are doing a lot of actual work at your desks.

Thanks for the links guys, at least now I know I'm not missing out on a treasure trove of great desks.

ikea ***

you can but something there fit your pc base to the legs

keyboard drawers are made to bang your legs on anyway

design it to fit the space you have available and get your pedals under

happy families !!!
