I need to know a name of a racing game thats on PC? I have some friends thats think Need for Speed most wanted is the only good one out but i think its carp.
Could someone tell me a good one please :)

Live For Speed
Richard Burns Rally
GT Legends
GTR

I have them all and have started getting back into GTL and GTR now that I have discovered the Nordschleife addon tracks.

Theres also Rfactor, but I didn't like the demo and don't have the full game to comment on.

If you want online play I would check out LFS, the demo allows you to race online with other demo and paid-up users on the demo tracks.

GTR without doubt is the most realistic one ive ever played, you need a decent steering wheel though to really appriciate it (ie MOMO wheel). Richard Burns Rally and Live for Speed are in a close second place. LFS can be bought online for £12 too (for S1 or £24 for S1 and S2 last time i looked - about 6 months ago) :)

Live for speed, and if you see what its just been awarded a few days ago youll understand the reason for recommending it. Info/demo download in the link in my sig.

GTR, another really good games, but a lot more focused. This requires concentration all the time, whereas on LFS you can lay off and just cruise.

GT Ledgends, doen by the same peopel as GTR. A pretty fun game and the some of the cars are relativelyy simple to drive.

Need for Speed: Porsche 2000

It's arcadey but not the same degree as the more recent NFS games; it has an excellent damage model which is persistent between races, varied handling on the cars, good graphics, great tracks and fantastic performance. For those who don't fancy a full-on sim, you won't find much better than this.

edit: might be called Need for Speed: Porsche Unleashed down under.

Are there any games with excellent modelling of Silverstone, including all different track configurations. I'm thinking about taking my National B there and need some practice :D

This is a truly great game and one I keep coming back to, I probably complete it afresh once every 6 months or so just to remind me how good it is. Once you get the hang of it the AI isn't up to all that much but for feel of the cars it is hard to beat, should you want to you can go round almost every corner sideways in total control or do perfect 360s on every straight although this obviously depends on the car.

For the record though I still think NFS:MW is pretty good for an arcade type game, I've almost completed the Challenge series for it as well as the career mode which is a little bit easy.

What sort of racing games do you like then? I personally don't think that there are many good racing games for the PC - consoles are better in that regard (eg. Gran Turismo, PGR, Burnout, Forza etc).

Am surprised to see such varied answers in this thread. I saw the title and thought theres no point looking in as the answers are odvious, i was wrong.
Well each to there own but here is my list.

Richard Burns rally = The best driver on the PC bar none although its rock hard and not for the faint hearted. Most will merely be thrown into the trees repeatedly but the skilled will know there is no better driver on the PC.

GT Legends = Best online racer. I care not about awards this is My opinion.
GTL has the most active pits on and the best overall feel of a racer online.
Races run well with minimal bugz and are huge amounts of fun.
Gent style racing is coming to the fore now with regular racers setting the standards. We stick together and join the same pits and vote idiots off sharpish.

RFactor = A terrific racer with many mods to suit all. For me the Superkarts are second to none. The speed of those things literally makes your teeth rattle. :D
Excellent fun and growing and developing all the time with recent mods such as the Terrific Dune Buggy mod by friends of mine The MrMen mod crew. ;)
Big shout goes out to skills of MrIngall and [TSR]Raven.
Also the F3 Euro series on RF is brilliant the Nippons are great the Porsche carrera cup i could go on and on.

New tracks are coming out all the time and actual game players are developing the mods/tracks/skins etc.
The PC sim racing scene has never been in better shape to be honest.
It makes console racing games seem dated and childish and i don't say that lightly. My brother brought his old PS2 around when he got GT4 it was laughable. Now he has a 360 and PGR really there is No comparison at all.
With current systems and say a Momo like mine with graduating pedals and FF etc PC drivers are a world infront of console racing games.

You know the 360 is a console right? :p Also you can get proper force feedback wheels for the PS2 at least (not the Xbox or 360 though).

(edit - I'm not sure how to read your post, I thought you were saying that 360 and PGR are good but reading it again, maybe you were saying that is crap in your opinion too)
