Hello,
I am after a new digital camera.
Last one was a 3.2mp one (nikon 3100 or something...it broke)

I know a lot of cams now are like 6mp. Are they worth paying the extra for it?

I was happy with 3.2mp - why do you need bigger, tbh.

I want it for just general snaps, but also would love it if i can play with settings (no idea what ones...) to play with light, shutter speed etc.

What camera would you reccommend?
Can spend upto 300ish quid, but would prefer to spend about 100ish ;)

thanks
ps i will probably wait till jan sales to make it a bit cheaper ;).

Megapixels is a little like megahertz for CPUs. Some people mistakenly believe that the higher the number the better it is. There are about a million other things that will effect the quality of a picture (sensor size being one if not the most important).

For example, a 4MP Canon EOS 1D would (in the right hands!) give you much better results than a 10MP IXUS.

Having a higher megapixel count allows you to have larger prints made or to crop into the picture more. How many you need depends a lot on what you are trying to shoot. If you were happy with 3.2 then I doubt you have a need for more.

For a good camera with manual modes up to £300 I would go for the Canon PowerShot S3 IS.
