Ok i have around £420 to spend and i have.

**AMD Phenom II X4 Quad Core 940 Black Edition 3.0GHz (oc'ed to 3.61ghz)
**Biostar TSeries TA790GX 128M AMD 790GX (Socket AM2+) DDR2 Motherboard
**OCZ Gold Edition 8GB (4x2GB) DDR2 PC2-8500C5 Dual Channel
**Coolermaster Real Power 1000w Modular Power Supply
**20" fujitsu monitor though i am thinking about getting a 22 or 24" and use hdmi.

I think thats the info you need, i want to be able to run crysis on max settings with aa etc and i was wondering sould i get a 4890 or a 4870x2 or 2 4890s and crossfire, or any other ideas? since i have a amd computer i thought that ati graphics card should run better.

Also is crossfire supported in all new games? or will it be? and does it work in far cry 2 and crysis etc?

Thank you for your time and help.

your better off going for a nvidia card mate if you wont to play crysis, ati and crossfire dont do that well when it comes to that game

how about a GTX285/295 that will play crysis and any other game no problem

Any reason why you require a 1000 watt PSU and 8GB of ram?

Anyways, I would go with a nice gtx260 or stretch for a 275 (both great cards all round).

Or go with the £250 asus 285.

I would think the 4890 would be the sweet spot at the moment especially at £165.

Crossfire is probably going to become better with newer releases, however in some games it doesn't scale at all - it won't see your other card in some games and no idea if this is a driver issue or if it's a fault with some games - Teamfortress 2 springs to mind.

But personalyl I would get a 4890 now, with the potential to crossfire in the future.

i do a lot of converting and editing.... plus the 1000w is incase i get 2 4870x2s or something.

But ive read ati wins on higher resolutions? and i have a crossfire mobo so surely makes more sence to get ati anyway as i cant do sli.

Thanks Deaco, but will i be able to max ot crysis with no lag? i dont really care about a few fps more or anything like that i jsut want to play games without lag maxed out.

I would save some money and go with a quality 850watt psu - should be fine for ur needs.
Nvidia is faster in Crysis and generally has more consistency across titles - they are easier to live with imo. Get urself a 285.

Not sure about that, 2x4890's in crossfire are better than a GTX295 in Crysis/Far Cry 2 - 4.3fps in Cry and 10.1fps in FC2.

yes i do have a 1000w i got it for £137.99 if it cost more i think i would have went with a 850w, so you think a 4890 and later down the line get another? there little higher spec then the 4870 ant they? my friend as a pc build abit lower spec then mine and he says hes 1gb 4870 maxed out lags abit?

but with crossfire you could be getting those frames but it dont feel like it for some reason,

my 2 4870 1gb gets 40/60 fps but it dont feel like that it feel more like 20/30 its mad

arrh that is mad, ok this was going to be for a birthday present for me lol i think since you guys say get one then another when you need it, i think i will get a iphone and buy a 4890 next week and another if i think i will need it to finish off my pc build.

do any of you know about overclocking? if so can you help me out here http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?p=14080287#post14080287
