Last Pioneer one died a few years ago but I wasn't driving much so didn't think I could justify spending cash on one!

Now however I have a bit more cash :D So... What do I buy? Budget £200-£300

Last one was about £230 when I bought it, can't remember the model but it had a greyish allumium front and remember it was quite popular with the peeps here. It's gonna go in my 99 Audi A4 and will hopefully see some upgrades in the future like an amp and a sub :D

What features do you need specifically, ipod/iphone integration? You can't go wrong with either a Pioneer or an Alpine unit.

Yeah I was just thinking I should have probably been a bit more specified with my requirements :P

Mp3 playback is a must with either SD or USB memory stick support ideal. I have a tiny 4gb USB stick so a port on the front isn't the end of the world although ideally a rear port would be better so I can get it put through to the glovebox or somewhere equally non-obtrusive :)

Ill take a look at the Pioneer DEH-7200SD

Looks alright I guess, there any prettier ones that sound as good or better? lol :)

I have an Alpine X305, which is a great unit. There is no CD player, it's all about the iPod/iPhone control if you have one. However, for the price, I'm a bit miffed at the plastic feel of the fascia.

Yeah I don't have an iPod as such or any proper mp3 player but I do have a lot of mp3s!

Ability to play CDs isn't particular important I guess although it would seem weird not to have it? lol

Alpine CDE-9880R.

Looks great (in my e36), colours and illumination blend well with the rest of the dash, has rear USB and can support an iPod connector (Won't charge the iPhone 4) and sounds great too. Cost's about £150 which leaves some cash spare :p

I have the Alpine X305S which is generally a pretty good head unit, the biggest let down for me is the speed (or lack of it) when trying to search through the MP3s on my iPod.

Does anyone know of any headunits that have really good iPod integration with fast and easy searching?

I've got the X301 and can't say i've got any problems searching through IPod tracks, and it charges the iphone 4. Seems newer isn't always better ;)

My iPod touch 64GB has about 40GB of music on it and it's deathly slow when searching for a track, I just leave it on shuffle most of the time because I can't be bothered waiting.

I think I might wait till the new range of head units come out and see if there's anything new on the market that is faster that the Alpine.

I need a new headunit for the galant too, same budget as OP:
Requirements:

Cd ( must read mp3's, also must have good folder support so you can find a track easier by being able to to ''next folder'' and ''previous folder'' not just next and previous track)
Front aux
USB ( must support normal usb sticks, and like with cd's, have an easy way to browse them)
Radio with RDS ( for speed traps & TA traffic news every 30 mins)
Pre outs.
Bluetooth handsfree compatible with Nokia & Android telephones.

So in short: Radio w RDS, cd, usb, aux, bluetooth (handsfree calling compat.), 200-300 budget.

Do not need ipod or iphone support, audio sources will mainly be cd's ( I always put a discography of an artist on 1 cd, with the albums in folders), an 8gb usb stick ( most listened tracks) and my telephone ( spotify, atm I do it with the built-in FM transmitter as don't have aux in).
