First a bit of a background:

I played WoW religiously for a few years all the way up to Cataclysm. I dabbled a bit in MoP, quite a bit actually but I had to move on. I loved the crafting, the exploring, even the grindy stuff.

I turned to Destiny to join some mates but that's getting boring now so I need something else to play, and I'm itching for another MMO.

I'd LOVE to play Warlords but that is sadly not an option, so I'm looking for something else.

I have Guild Wars 2 but never really bothered with it. Is it any good? RIFT is also apparently decent, but again, not much experience.

This is what I loved about WoW, the more of these boxes I can tick in a new MMO, the better:

Social aspect. Seeing other players all over the place was fantastic, friend or foe it, made the game.

The art direction with all the colours is great. I like upbeat environments, not all doom & gloom.

Crafting system, a big thing for me and one of the reasons I'm hesitant to get Warlords. Blizzard killed it with the Garrisons, so there's very little need for me to grind out all the recipes, something I oddly enjoyed.

Trading system / economy. I loved the whole trading thing in the game. I had tons of addons which were for the auction house and between activities I'd browse and flip to make a bit of extra gold which I hoarded.

//This might be a bit of a stretch, but can anyone think of anything like this?

This gets asked a lot but the general opinion (and I probably agree) is that WoW is still the best. I left WoW after WoTLK and when I reinstalled last month (Up to Pandaria, for about £4) it had me hooked.

Ive since stopped but getting Warlords, boosting, then playing that endgame seems the only real good MMO choice these days.

Whilst I feel it lacks end-game appeal (so much so that I don't play any more), I thoroughly enjoyed my journey to level 80 with 2 toons in GW2.

Best combat system out of any 3rd-person MMO imo, and great art direction. Mega-server means that general population levels are in each map.

Enjoy the journey, no point in speeding to max level and missing content.

If you want crafting and trading/economy then you want Eve Online, people have written university papers on the economy in the game. I've played Ultima and SWG and they had great crafting but nothing compares to Eve.

It's very good from the social side too but it won't meet the are direction, but with the graphics turned up and I think they've released a new update with better graphics recently it can be beautiful to look at.

Black Desert Online.....Korean MMO just in open BETA starting tomorrow, needs a bit of faffing around with vpn and Korean I_Pin account, but well worth it. Check out the videos online.

Cheers all. I've tried downloading GW2 again but I've had to submit a support ticket as my account has been dormant for too long.

And now I wait...

I played wow from around 2004-2006 then 2007-2009 then I got my
Missus into pc gaming and we played together on wow from 2012 till January this year and we both now play eso since launch. Can't fault it one bit, the story is fandastic just like all eso games, the story is there if you take time to read it rather than leveling but also all the end game content is there now. And now that the game is understood great character builds and guides are all over the web. It's fantastic really it's an amazing place to be, just like any game like wow, as standard ui and without addons not so great but once you get it set up like you want it it's brilliant.

Remember the amazing feel of adventure in 2004 when you heard the elwynn Forrest music as an aliance player on wow.. Well I get that feeling every time I hear the login music on elder scrolls. It's the first game that's brought that sense of adventure back again.

Ultimately, you could just not play MMO's.

Lets face it, you spend hours and hours each week levelling a character, crafting items to sell and doing end game stuff to make you rich in a virtual world ultimately for that company to pull the plug some time in the future, and you lose everything.

My friend has been playing WoW since launch, has spent thousands of pounds on collector items, mounts, addons, subs, pretty much anything WoW and when they finally decide to replace it what will he have to show for it? nothing.

I started on Ultima, then SWG, then Eve and have played most of the others in between, i've wasted hours that I could have been spent enriching my own life. Yes, I still play games but I've cut them right back but I can't see me even trying a new MMO so I can't get sucked in.
