I recently purchased a new Asus 4870x2 from Overclockers but sadly it wont fit in my PC. There are 2 PCIe slots on my motherboard, 1 is close to the bottom of the case and the other has the sata drive connections too close to it so the card wont fit in :( I've looked at some different cases, but most seem to lack the space I need for the card at the bottom.... soooooooo I'll buy a new PC and keep the other one as a spare/media PC. I'm quite annoyed that I have the GPU sitting around doing nothing, and just cant find the right combo of thing to buy.

My PC is mainly for gaming along with some movie watching, Excel, Word etc and I already have a graphics card ready, so I need to get new:

Processor - something nice for gaming
Motherboard - One where the huge 4870x2 will fit in and not hug the bottom of the case.
Memory - 4GB atleast, I'll use Vista Ultimate
Harddisk - something nice for gaming,
Harddisk 2 - storage disk
PSU - good enough to handle all of the above.
Case - something decent to fit all of the above.
Anything else I missed.

Budget wise.. I dont have a strict budget, but say something around 700-800? If its a little more then ok :)

Please help.. I have looked myself, but am struggeling to decide whats best.

worth a check there are sata cables that go at right angles any chance that would solve the issue with the sata connectors, put them in first then the gfx card ?

Thanks for the spec :) Is AMD is better for gaming than an Intel i7?

I have a Asus PK5 Deluxe at the moment, which is a nice motherboard apart from the layout of the slots :p

yeah generally amd is considered a better gaming option, mainly based on performance/cost of amd against the i7 (which is more useful on the video encoding front etc).

I could try that, but tbh I'll be happy to get a new PC so my current one can be my media PC. Thanks for the advice, am ordering the parts now :D

The Phenom is currently the better bang for the buck than the i7, though you can get a very good deal on C2D/C2Q chips as well. I believe the Phenom is meant to OC better.

How many hard disks do you have?
Reason: Not all of the 6 ports should be blocked by the Graphics card (Having looked at the layout).

Also the suggestion to buy a right angled sata cable may solve the problem.
