Ok just to set the scene a little, at the moment i have a car and about 3-4 motorbikes, all on-road stuff. The car is shortly being sold to fund a Transit or similar for my dad and myself, however i have been stashing some money away lately which is sitting just under 1.5k but most definately going to be more.

I'm looking for some offroad fun and at the moment i am torn between buying another bike or a pickup truck. . . I am most definately going to own both but there is going to be a little bit of a time difference between the two so i need to decide wether i am to buy a truck or another bike and well i need advice!

The Pickups i am looking at are MK2 Toyota Hiluxs', in the single cab guise, diesel variety of course. Followed by a few mods such as 33" rubber most probably, suspension lift and locking diffs.

My motorbike ranges are slightly different but i am looking at something Enduro style and most probably 2-stroke due to cheaper costs when/if it goes bang.

I really cannot decide tho and would appreciate any advice!

You'll have the tranny to move the crosser about so hold off with the Toyota & get a CR250.
Once you have it mail me & i will give you directions to the Desert. About a 40 minute drive for us towards Nottingham way is wasteland bigger than you thought possible.

Malc, I'd be interested in where this wasteland is - is it suitable for photographic opportunities?

If you are looking for offroad fun, why are you looking at a Hilux? Yes they are very rugged, but they weren't designed with offroad capability as the first priority.

I'd be looking at a Series 3 Land Rover for that money.

Hiluxes are more than capable vehicle, i've played around bit and well, they get stuck less than landys from what i see. Bobtailed with bigger tyres, locking diffs, snorkel and a winch and well they can go nearly anywhere!

When it comes to motorbikes, yea 3-4, one is off the road at the moment, another one maybe on the way (not related to this thread).

The four-stroke enduro bikes, well to blanket it even more, the 4-stroke offroad bikes tend to be highly strung to make the power that they do, i've looked into all the majour manufacturers and bikes, service intervals go to about 10 hours for an oil change, valve checks at 25hours on some, they are extremly highly strung machines, if they go wrong then can cost the thick end of 1k, where as if a 2-stroke goes it's by far a lot simpler and a lot cheaper.

I'm just not sure at the minute, both vehicles are going to be fun in their own way, i just can't decide what to pick, the guys i mess around with each have a pickup and a quad each for their offroading fun and i get to play on what they aren't using at the mo!
