While we're on the subject I had a coincidental conversation with a mate who looks after the PC's etc in a school yesterday.
I asked him what the most common problem was and he said students removing USB drives/flash cards etc without clicking on the remove icon first and they lose all their data.

Photorec I have used and can 110% verify it can recover /all/ recoverable images. it even recovered photos months old form my 1GB CF cards.

recuva seemed to have worked, on the thumnail on some photos the picture is perfect then when I go to preview they are all messed up :confused:

Photorec is the best image recovering tool
Testdisk is (one of the) best partition recovering tools

Well, I've lost my data a few times on a mac, crashed the system twice on NT/2k but never ever ever had problems with XP or Vista.... I just yank it out. Fine tbh.

Just wanted to say cheers for this. Read through this thread just out of curiosity the other day, and remembered about it tonight when a friend deleted a photo I took of her from my phone. Plugged my phone in, ran Photorec, and the photo lives once more!

It's also good for taking photos of your friends in awkward moments then when they cry (waaa! waaaaa!) show them you deleted the images then just recover them later
