do they exist - i'm struggling!!!
I have a 19" WS monitor native 1440x900 and will not be playing anything above this res...help! cheers
 
I'd say the 512MB version of the 3850 would be best for your needs. 3870 XT's with a single slot cooler would probably be a bit too expensive as they'd be third party solutions, and the 8800 GT really takes a hit with 256MB memory.
 
Many thanks for the responses...much appreciated - seems like an 8800gt would be the way - I see you can get an Inno3d 512mb 8800gt for cheap delivered on another site.

However, even though its single slot - it still seems like a bit of a beast - length ways!

I'm very interested in the Sapphire Atomic 3870 - although they are a little expensive and hard to find atm. It looks as if it would fit in my small overcrowded Silverstone case nicely - but as always the things you really want are just out of price range!

I thought I remembered seeing some single slot 3870s at its launch. I thought that was one of its selling points.
