I need a good sound card to replace my Xonar D2 because I am going to upgrade my system, the Asus Rampage V Extreme does not have a PCI slot so I will need a new sound card. I need one with optical in for my PS4 and Fire Tv, and if possible one what lets me have the optical in and mic port active at the same time, my D2 does not let me do this, I don't mind paying over £100 for it.

Thanks.

Soundblaster Z, is probably the best bet. Toslink in and out connections, and from what I can gather from the manual, there is no indication that you have to choose either microphone or SPDIF in. It only mentions having to select between line in, rear microphone and front microphone.

I used the optical in on my Soundblaster Z for my Xbox one and it work fine but it would use a lot of the CPU even when the Xbox was off. I ended up getting a MixAmp Pro 2013 and it’s very good, the newest version seems to get bad user feedback but the 2013 version works very well for me.

I've got a Soundblaster Z installed at the moment. It's a good card and does have optical in and out as well as a separate line-in. I'm 99% sure you can have both inputs active at the same time.

The only downside is that the drivers do indeed use up more memory/cpu than I'd like, but strangely not all the time.

It's not mentioned in the manual that I can see. The section on the digital input only mentions about connecting digital external devices for music purposes.

Can't say I'm surprised to see that it doesn't. The last card to have incoming decoding I believe was the X-Fi Elite Pro, although I'm not totally sure of that.
