Reason: Prom on the 30th June.
Requirements: Black suit that can be multi-purpose, ie worn to other things as it'll be my main suit.
Budget:: Obviously nothing stupid, no idea really how much a decent suit costs.

So what am i looking for in a suit? Is it worth getting it tailored? I am 17 so in terms of growing, i believe i have stopped height wise. Maybe i should just hire a suit instead? Where to go - Debenhams or somewhere like Powell & Palmer?

Suit me!

why don't you borrow one from your dad?

Nice idea and i suppose i could do. Problem is, he's smaller than me height wise and has a larger chest, outways. Plus i would prefer to have my own suit.

TBH at that age, I wouldn't bother spending the amount on a tailored suit when you could very likely be still growing, just rent one.

Why not? I have a suit and I look the part :)

Probably very cheap compared to everyone else here, but I got mine from Suits You in the Metro Center (in Gateshead). £129 for the suit, + £70 for the shoes - the chap at the store did all the measurements for me, and I must say not only did he know his stuff, but he was an incredibly nice chap.

Well I would suggest renting a dinner suit, a casual suit for a good fitting one can cost any where from 100-10k, depends on where you look and what shape you are.

I was in Topman earlier and they had Jacket/Shirt/Tie combos going for as little as £30ish which didn't seem too bad if budget is tight!

River Island, Burtons, Next, Topshop, all do some nice suits and they go from about £100 up.. mine was £130 I think from River Island and I really like it.
Sound advice, i also think Burtons rent stuff out (which is very nice). I'd suggest for a prom renting a dinner jacket etc.. Rent it because you probably wont use it much again if you buy one. Also they take student discount if you have a connexions card. Our school managed to get some kind of offer going with them :).

Have fun!

Late reply to this, my apologises.

Hmm, seems the general view is that it's better to rent for the Prom? Can see where you're coming from i guess.

Going to Brighton thursday with Chris01 so i'll be sure to take a look around at all of the usual places, price up. Just really wanted something i could use again.

/shrugs.

Thanks. <3
