Hey, i didnt no weather to post this in General Hardware or PC Games so ill post in both...

Anyway here goes..

My machine spec is..

AMD athlon XP 3200+ Overclocked, not sure what to though...
512 ram
I think a radion 9600

The reason i have gave these specs is because im awaiting the release of Crysis the game and i think im going to have to upgrade...

So guys, what will i need to run this game smoothly.

And could anyone point me in the right direction for some good gaiming graphics cards.. not too dear, maybe around £50-£60

p.s. here is a link for some screen shots http://www.crysis-online.com/

Thanks a lot

Sam.

Houston we have a problem.

Wait until it comes out, then ask again. There is only speculation at the moment, and that kind of cash will go further when the time comes.

Without it being out, you're not going to know 100%, but with £50-60, you're not going to get very much improvement whatsoever, as your system has quite a few bottlnecks, the biggest being your RAM and your Graphics card. Ideally you'd want to spend £200++ on graphics alone really.

With that cash, I'd say get more RAM, it will be the overall most effective, or a decent second hand graphics card, not sure what, but you'd probably get something half decent for it.

You're not going to be able to run the game on very high settings though.

Yup - you're looking at a new system, pretty much. That current spec won't even play games from 2 years ago at max settings, yet alone a next gen DX10 title! I'd just start saving now with a view to getting a new CPU, mobo, RAM and video card when the time comes.

If you really want to blow some cash right now get another 512MB RAM - 1GB is pretty much the minimum in the latest games.

Ooh, I misread the CPU... your system is pretty much rubbish now, it probably can barely run FarCry on full detail can it?

and lots of this

although we dont know what the spec is for crysis yet, please, for all thats holy, spend at least £100 on a graphics card, at least £50 on a new CPU, £85 on 2 gig of ram and at least £40 on the motherboard.

for example, if you were to spend that today you could get the following:

Abit NF95 mobo
opteron 146 or AMD A3500+ (second hand)
2 gig of corsair value or twinmos or some similar.
7600GT

so if i theorise and say in 9 months when crysis is out (by which time youl have access to the MM)you could get the following for similar money...
Abit NF95 mobo
opteron 150 / AMD A4000+
2 gig of corsair value or twinmos or some similar
X1800XT second hand (or possibly some DX10 compatible mid range card.)

but i can tell you now, just spending £60 on a graphics card isnt going to cut it.

that reminds me i want a pc that can run crysis ive got £100 all i need is the base unit

this thread is pointless i think hes just having a laugh :p

No i wasnt having a laugh... people just dont understand what i mean...

I want a upgrade but i dont want to spend much on the graphics card... that doesnt mean i cant get ram and CPU does it... people be seriouse...

Thanks

Sam.

edit. it only has to run on low settings...

You might be able to get one of the agp x1600pro ati cards for about £60-70 however your ram and cpu will still not be enough. Athlon xp's just don't cut it anymore and 2 gig of ram is needed really.

Hmmm that could be a option... :P Joking..

Anyway i could stretch to maybe £70-80 on the graphics card... i have 512 ram and thinking of buying another 1 gig, i think that would be enough wouldnt it....

As for CPU's i dont no were to start.. i am a noobie by the way :P

I dont no all this technical stuff, my bro normally does it for me but he is in china... a bit out of reach :P

So all help will be nice..

Sam. :P

Another gig of ram would be great, but it's probably time for you to jump ship to another cpu/motherboard type too. I suggest you take advantage of the very very good deals on athlon 64's, this way you can still use your ram instead of having to buy totally new stuff.

If you want it to run just on low settings even, perhaps (like some people have mentioned)

A64 CPU 2.2Ghz+
1Gb Value RAM
ATI X1800XT / Nvidia 7600GT

That's a guess, but most of the video's were done on an X1900XT iirc, so low settings would run on that I would have thought/hoped!

Game isn't out yet, in fact I don't think it even has a confirmed release date yet, so don't bother.

I've seen people buy PCs in preperation for the release of a new game and then be left with egg on their face due to the long time before the game finally comes out. For instance there was a guy who bought a dual p2-400 rig a good year before quake3 came out, because he knew it would support SMP. But in the end he would have been much better off waiting until the end of 1999 when the game finally came out, by which time the AMD Athlon was available.

The upgrade isnt in preperation just for that game but i want to upgrade because my rig is pretty crappy isnt it but i want to be able to upgrade and not have to upgrade again when crysis comes out.

Right here goes..

I will buy the parts second hand it doesnt bother me, i really just need advice on what to buy because i am a noobie and have never bought my own parts before...

Sam

p.s. i am willing to go over budget but i will need longer to get the money, so if i have to go over on the graphics card then dont go over too much, and dont point me in the direction of dear ram or anything els either :P..

Ok this spec here is pretty poor but its as cheap as you will want to go:

AMD Athlon 64 3200+ Venice (Socket 939) - Retail £49.99 £49.99
Asrock 939SLI-eSATA2 (Socket 939 & Upgradable to AM2) PCI-Express Motherboard
£44.99 £44.99
OcUK Value 2GB (2x1GB) PC3200 184pin DDR Memory Dual Channel Kit £114.99 £114.99
Sapphire X1600 Pro 256MB DDR2 AVIVO TV-Out/DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail
£54.99 £54.99
Samsung SpinPoint P HD160JJ 160GB SATA-II 8MB Cache - OEM £33.95 £33.95
Subtotal £298.91
VAT £52.31
Total £351.22

I suppose the rest of the parts you can recycle into your new rig dvd drive monitor etc.....

I wouldnt recommend going cheap when you want a nice gaming pc, your better off with a xbox360 if you cant man up to the high prices.
