but I can't afford anything expensive, however I don't know which ones will work.

I wasted 40 quid on this from overclockers:

Its supposed to have a firmware upgrade to let it work properly but it gives me error messages when I try and update the sodding thing. Now it wont even connect to the internet and it's not giving off a wireless signal anymore. I dont have the reciept or anything so it's about as useful as a paperweight.

Im using a rubbish ADSL modem at the moment that keeps giving me DNS issues every 5 minutes.

I would doubt its anything to do with Vista. They all use a web interface to access them, so they are not hardcoded to any specific OS.

Look at the doucmentation, connect to via wired ethernet and not wifi. reset it to defaults, and you should be able to configure it.

AFAIK that is.

There's no reason why that router, or any other router for that matter, shouldn't work fine with Vista - provided you don't use USB, and instead use either ethernet or wireless and have the drivers for your network card or wireless adapter.

It sounds more like the firmware upgrade went belly up, and it's left you with a brick.

That's what I thought but apparently everyone else seems to be having networking issues on vista

Then it sounds like Vista IP protocol is broke.
Communication to routers is via IP, not any driver.

I have Billion 7300A, I think very similar except yours is wireless. Worked fine for XP.

any router should be fine with any os, its the ethernet/wifi card which needs to be compatible with the os. if you can connect to its web interface it should work fine if you put the details from your current modem into the routers builtin modem

I've had no issues with IP and routers with Vista. It would be unusable if it was broken.
