I need advice from users who know the history of GPU releases/Nvidia past dodgy sale techniques.

Hello there.
Sorry if this is a bit of a silly question/"we don't have a crystal ball you madman" type question.
I'm more asking as you guys probably know about the history and trend of past graphic cards.

I've recently built a new pc (Minus the GPU) and im now looking to upgrade my 2060 to a .. well, there lies the problem.
My budget is £700.(Read additional for explanation why I can't spend more)

My first instinct was to go for a 4070 super (Maybe a super ti if I got a good sale/deal). However, from what everybody has been saying the 5070 is around the corner (February) so, I decided to wait for this.
However, from what I'm seeing in the past it's been almost impossible to get your hands on a **70 for a good few months and then it's at an often inflated price)
Some say there's a big chance the 5070 will be more like a 5060 due to Nvidia demoting their cards like they (apparently) did with the 3000 and then 4000 series.
I am being inpatient lol

.. is any of the above true or just speculation?

Thank you for any help/advice.

Additional
I'm a carer for a family member and I don't really have any disposable income at the moment. Gaming is my only real 'escape' as I can't really leave the house and only get to go 'out' once a month. However a family member has given me some money to build a new pc. I only have £700 left for the gpu.

I’d probably try and get a 7900XT which go on sale between £550-600 sometimes or like wise the 4070ti super which comes up now and again for around £650.

You could be waiting another 6 months for a 5070 and it may turn out to be no faster than the above models.

And at @TrojanWhore @Armageus. Thank you for the replies. Must admit I was tempted by the 7900 but my monitor is G-sync only and it is a feature I do love otherwise I'd have got that one :(. Thank you though!!

That is what is worrying me. No point waiting 6 months for nothing. Sadly that bit does fall under the crystal ball part of my o.p lol. :(

@flashheart85 - just saw your other post about your ROG monitor packing up - Did you manage to get it working again? If not then FYI the monitors that were suggested to you in that thread should support freesync or g-sync!
I did lol I don't know how but a friend took it for a night, worked on it and it worked. He said something had blown in the monitor. I ended up cancelling one I'd purchased and sending it back!

/Waits for some knob to recommend waiting til 5070 launches, which will probably be July/August 2025 :D
Tbh I'm that Knob lol I am so tempted to wait but.. I don't think I will.
From the OP, he's built the entire PC already just without the GPU.

I think everyone has sort of nailed it, if there's a good deal on a 4070Ti Super get that. If you didn't have a Gsync monitor then get a 7900XT, failing that a 4070 Super is still a really good card. No bad options here (just bad prices...).
I think that sums it up pretty well tbh! The 4070ti super looks like the one for me and like others have said there's a chance the 5070 COULD have a smallish increase etc. I don't think its worth the wait.

Well @flashheart85 it'll be a good time to buy from from this week onwards til Black Friday because their will be lots of sales on and you may even get a 4070TiS for your budget (4070S def the pick though at 500ish for value but the 16GB of the Ti will last you longer for sure).

WOOF! :D
