But not at any price
And I don't just mean $$$.
I want to move from my 20" Philips IPS to a bigger screen - but I don't want to sit further away from my screen, I simply want my screen to take up more of my field of vision.
As an additional restraining factor, I don't want to buy something that a GTX460 couldn't drive acceptably - with AA off (I don't care about jaggies at high rez).
Currently my screen is a 20" Philips IPS with a dot pitch of .258mm. I'd like to go to 26+ inches (24" absolute minimum).
At first I considered a 24" 1920x1080 (16:9), but with typical dot pitch values of .26mm, I soon realised I wouldn't be gaining any additional height (30px = nothing
)
Then I had a look at 27" screens with the same rez, and saw they were using a dot-pitch of .311. Whilst I wouldn't mind a slightly bigger pixel pitch than I'm currently using, I'm worried about going higher than .28, which I've read is the biggest acceptable for close-in work, because after that the display starts looking blurred.
Of course with a 27" screen you have the choice of jumping up a rez (WQHD: 2560x1440). Sadly these screens are very expensive (£800-£1k) and are also probably beyond the power of a GTX460 to drive smoothly.
So something has to give. Seems no monitor exists which will fill more of my field of view, whilst remaining crisp for close-in viewing and not requiring an uber-card to drive.
But I can't stick with my 20". It just looks so small to me now
I can see all my desk around it and it's driving me mad. I need a bigger screen, that's for sure.
