Hi guys :)

A funny thing has happened. After upgrading to my C2D and overclocking it, I have noticed much cooler CPU temperatures and my case is hardly hot at all. The thing is.... last night I was playing for a while and I started getting cold. With my old overclocked Athlon, I was always warm after an hour or so in a room, but the C2D had been on for about 4 hours! My 'space heater' athlon has now been replaced with a luke-warm air blower :o

Thankfully I had beer at hand to forget about the chill whilst gaming, but just you should be warned before upgrading and getting hypothermia ! ;)

Thankfully, on friday my new electric heater - an x1950xt -turns up, so with a bit of luck it will all be getting a little warmer :D

Stay safe out there....

Matthew

I wish mine was the same - it's already hot in my room even with this mini-autumn we're having. Not looking forward to working on it when it actually gets hot outside ...

My system is the exact opposite of yours though: cramped case, damn hot card and a CPU that blisters when pushed :D

Just to clarify... (for stickroad and others reading)... Much cooler temperatures after changing to a C2D from an Athlon XP = too cold in room now, and I might have to turn the heating back on

Matthew
p.s. Growling Fish..Flog your chip and motherboard and get a cheap C2D plus m-board and you'll be laughing and how much better for so little money it is :)

I said  because i still cant imagine how a computer chip can change the temps of your room so dramatically that you can actually notice the difference.

Aye, I want to do this...but I know nobody will give me enough money to get a decent C2D and mobo...afterall I'm on an AM2 system :(

My room is all nice and toasty, the rest of the house is chilly, I do sometimes like having an AMD system. Obviously it requires the bedroom door to be closed, but it certainly warms the room nicely.

Im too cool for socks. ;)
I just lean my feet on the top of the case, the power supply gives a nice blow of warmth.

in a smallish room with not much ventilation a pc pumping out heat obviously makes the room hotter, especialy if you have a prescott based p4 ;)

Wow stickroad.. you've never actually noticed a heat change? Do you live in an old inefficient breezer country cottage? :D

But seriously, yes, it was highly noticable the change in temperature. I have a digital clock with a temp gauge on it, and it will raise from 18-25/26 quite easily in my old very small room. Now in a slightly bigger colder house/room, it isn't so pronounced, but was still there till I changed to a C2D.

I was actually considering putting the electric heater on in the room, but then i got so tired playing far cry till 3am I forgot about how cold it was lol.

Lol my room is like that too, except mine has the airing cupboard too... it gets REALLY hot in here especially with the AM2 system going. Quite chilly without it during the winter. I just run orthos 24/7 during the winter and its just fine. (that last bit is a joke)

Perhaps it more a case of changing which games I play.

Strangely Far Cry runs SOOOO much better now with the new C2D @ 2.6Ghz compared to my Athlon @ 2.25Ghz, but it doesn't seem to stress the CPU enough :(

Soon as the x1950xt turns up, I will start playing S.T.A.L.K.E.R. again and keep an eye on the CPU temps to see if the heating improves :D

Stay warm in there overclockers,
Matthew

It is funny, when i changed my entire PC, i got rid of a prescott p4 3.4ghz for a c2dE6600, and it is indeed cooler, system is 10C cooler and processor is idle at 34C roughly, compared to 55C in old pc (which was crap)
