Hi all
Sorry if this has come up recently

System
Aorus x570
Ryzen9

ASUs stxii 7.1
Pioneer studio speakers
Sony sub
Etc etc

Ok windows 10 system worked fine
Windows 11 ok till I got to 22H2
Then nowt but issues
Spent three days with Microsoft updating ststem
Now on 24H2 latest 14oct 2024

Now windows can’t even detect the card let alone drivers not working
ASUs so far proving useless
Microsoft = total joke
I’d back track to windows 10 but other than wiping the system clean again I don’t know what to do and it’s stressing the hell out of me

I’ve considered buying a new card but tbh I don’t know of a better card and most I’ve seen still only have the windows 10 drivers

I’ve downloaded the latest windows 10 ASUs driver but when run the system can’t find the card so the drivers won’t install
I’ve updated the bios too and turned off the onboard Realtek audio as recommended by asus

I hate Microsoft
They seem aderment on screwing systems up

Thanks for any help

So run the driver but again because card isn’t detected in pc it won’t let me install drivers and therefore still no go
ASU’s just tell me it’s unsupported so what’s next
Any advice
Buy a new sound card?
If so which is the best for windows 11 running 7.1 please?

I'm using an Asus Essence STX II on a windows 11 PC with latest windows updates working fine, this is my home office PC. Computer is AMD 3900X on Gigabyte Elite board. I'm using Asus drivers from 2015 or whatever the latest ones are.

Have you upgraded your AMD chipset drivers?

Hi
Then maybe my cards broke although god knows why or how

No all I’ve done is updated and checked ever audio driver

Updated the bios to the latest one
And turned off the on board audio to the motherboard

Removed and reinstalled
Wound back to windows 10 yesterday still wouldn’t find it nd then reinstalled win11 pro 24H2

So back roughly where I was

My only thought was the IRQ settings
I’ve no less than 7 hard drives in the system all says or m2 on board type
4090 graphic brixk
Aorus Master
X5950 ryzen9
128gb Corsair vengeance pro

Runs great and quick too
Just no ruddy sound card

So bought a 7.1 sound blaster card off Amazon yesterday and some speaker lead converters with a plan to remove and try a new sound card
This will prove the slot is ok and at least get sound on again

If it works ok then I have to suspect the STXii may have failed but don’t know how or why
I would have thought even if it’s failed it should still be detected

I did remove two onboard hard drives as an IRQ check but made no difference
Wasn’t sure if there was an IRQ limit on motherboards
Not good enough with computers on that side of things

At least I know now that the STXii will work on win11
Just doesn’t make sense why mine isn’t even being detected

I do have a lot of audio gear connected to my pc but even when that’s disconnected no difference - all usb

Hmmm still doesn’t make sense to me

I’ve even tried removing the card trying to load drivers then installing but the system won’t allow the driver install program to run because it can’t see the card

My mind boggles

Does the card click when the computer is turned on, is it's molex power connector working ok?

Have you tried the card in another motherboard slot?

I don't think it's an IRQ thing, my first priority would be to seat the card in another slot.

Right finally found the issue and fixed it yippe

Ok Aorus motherboard back dated the bios the latest bios clashes with the m2 hard drives and locks out pcie3 slot

Ok tried windows10 and 11pro and both work fine

Make sure bios settings like XMP are on
Wind up the pcie setting too
I’ve pushed the motherboard to the max
So gonna push the clock speed back up to 4.8ghz and see how she runs again

Also updated all the ASU’s drives and tweaked the sound files a little

I still love the STXii board
Running full 7.1 on pioneer studio speakers all matched
Sony 400 watt sub
Hell the room shakes once more
And the 4090 makes the gaming experience amazing on three matched 27” screens

I think I’m gonna find this hard to beat

Tip make sure you leave slot 3of 4 free from the top down m2 HD wise this also locks out the third pcie slot

Thanks everyone for the help greatly appreciated

Well done, I thought it could have been related to pcie slot.

Very pleased you have it running again, the STX II for a consumer sound card, it's maybe the best ever made for audio quality. I've got external DAC's that beat the STXII however, that said I'm listening to my STX II as I type this on my office PC.

I'll give you a tip for improving it's sound quality - power the STX II from a dedicated Molex cable, in other words don't share it's power cable with say a DVD drive or anything like this.

The PSU cable is stand alone
So no weird frequencies coming in that way
Also running a 1300 watt Corsair super quiet PSU they work effortlessly even with 7 hat drives a very thirsty 4090 graphics card and the stxii

I’d love to know what unit you use externally
I also have an optic linked pioneer 7.1 surround amp but tbh I just love the STXii. It just works well

Have you ever changed the three op ams?
Always wondered if it makes much of a difference

That PSU is great, also great your running the card on it's own cable so no extra interference coming on from a DVD drive for example.

I'm using the stock Muse opamps, there the ones that came on the card as default. I tried the alternative opamps that came in the box but did not like them.

My DAC's are an Yamaha CD-S2100 SACD player, and an old Arcam irDAC on a linear PSU. The Arcam is very similar to the STX II, but it's a little cleaner as it's external to the computer. The CD-S2100 is used on my HTPC on main HiFi, that uses a Yamaha / Steinberg ASIO driver, this is whole level again over the Arcam irDAC.
